Gigi’s Cupcakes in Kenwood is all geared up for Halloween and Thanksgiving right now! Last year, I brought home a “Boo Box” and the kids LOVED it, so I had to get them again now that they’re back. It’s a box full of Halloween-themed mini cupcakes! You get 3 of each: Wedding Cake, Midnight Magic, Scarlett’s Red Velvet, and Confetti fun — all decorated super cute like ghosts, Frankenstein and candy corn.
While I was there picking up my “Boo Box” I saw they have Halloween cookie decorating kits you can get too! Such a fun activity idea to do with the kids! And for Turkey Day, they have a Thanksgiving themed mini cupcake box you can pre-order. Perfect if you’re hosting Thanksgiving this year or want to bring a fun hostess gift to someone who is. Speaking of holidays, I know Gigi’s does a fabulous job with catering desserts for holiday parties and special events or even business gift ideas! And they don’t just do cupcakes either! They can do holiday themed cakes, special occasion cakes, custom order cakes and even write any message you’d like on it! You can check out their website for a full menu including their every day flavors, allergy friendly options, and seasonal favorites — you can order online too if you’d like. And also be sure to like them on Facebook for all the latest on new flavors, specials and more!
Cincy Chic loves working with and supporting JDRF, especially when fun drinks and fashion are involved! That’s why we were so excited to have a table at this year’s Bourbon & BowTie Bash this past weekend! Check out the fun details of their new fundraising records below!
On Saturday, October 19, JDRF hosted its 6th annual Bourbon & BowTie Bash, billed as the hottest party in Cincinnati, and set a new fundraising record of $350,000 raised for type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. With nearly 2,000 guests, the sold out event featured 10 bourbon tastings and food and cocktails from over 25 of the area’s best-loved bars and restaurants. Local 12’s Bob Herzog served as emcee and auctioneer, and the evening’s Fund a Cure programming featured the story of Caroline (Callie) Boyce-Jones, who was diagnosed with T1D four years ago at the age of 25. Contrary to what many people think, T1D is not just a disease that impacts children, and it can strike anyone at any age and at any time. T1D is an autoimmune disease that has no association with dietary or lifestyle choices.
At the event, guests voted on their favorites, and the winning bar and restaurant partners were: Best Sweets, Tres Belle Cakes; Best Restaurant, Taglio; Best Up-and-Comer, Soleil Kitchen; and Best Cocktail, made by Jacob Trevino with Lonely Pine. Celebrity judge Molly Wellmann helped select and announce the 2019 Best Bartender recipient, which was Catherine Manabat with HomeMakers Bar. Also recognized at the event were the 17 young professionals who served as 2019 BowTie Barons & Baronesses, each of whom helped personally raise corporate contributions for JDRF. Also instrumental to the event’s success are the JDRF Emerging Leaders Council, which is a group of young professionals who helped with event planning in partnership with JDRF Senior Development Coordinator Jackie Oney.
“The Bourbon & BowTie Bash is one of our favorite events of the year,” said JDRF Southwest Ohio Executive Director Melissa Newman. “It’s exciting to host a fundraiser that has such a reputation as being such a fun party, but what’s most important is that it also serves the purpose of raising money for a critical need. We’re incredibly grateful to the community for rallying around the Bourbon & BowTie Bash and making a difference for everyone impacted by type 1 diabetes.”
It’s National Pasta Day Thursday Oct 17 and we celebrated a little early (we’re Italian so every day is pasta day TBH 😂) We headed to Bravo to check out their new Mediterranean menu and it was SO good (More details below about it). And now that I’m a mom, I’m a lot choosier about not just eating good food, it has to be good for you (I’m such a sneaky chef sneaking veggies in where ever I can these days!) and I also care about the world we’re leaving our kids. I recently read about Bravo’s new Good Food for The Planet™ Initiative, and it checks all those off the list for me. Plus they have this gooey warm chocolate cake dessert that I have dreams about, so we find ourselves at Bravo often!
Bravo restaurants just rolled out an awesome new Mediterranean-inspired menu at its Cincinnati locations including Rookwood Exchange, Mason and Westchester.
Some of the new menu items include a new Alfredo Fresco line including Fettucine Alfredo, Primavera Alfredo and Shrimp Alfredo along with Shrimp and Lobster Fettucine. The dishes, made from simple ingredients, utilize fresh handpicked produce and Italian herbs.
Plus, FoodFirst Global Restaurants, Inc., the newly formed restaurant company and parent company of Bravo Cucina Italiana, has a mission to provide Good Food for The Planet™ and this new menu is a step forward in that movement.
“Remember when you thought you couldn’t do this?” I read that on a spectator sign at this year’s Queen Bee Half Marathon and I immediately teared up. Yes, I do remember. Lola was 9 months old, Pete was recovering from hip and knee replacements, and I was at my unhealthiest (emotionally and physically – about 30lbs heavier than I am now and hadn’t exercised in over a year). I hadn’t showered in days, I was backlogged with work, bills, insurance/disability paperwork. Finding time to run with all this? “IT‘S TIME TO FIND THE TIME,” I thought and signed up for a half marathon on the spot. I went to the gym almost every day, progressed really well and felt healthier than ever. I was about halfway into training when I found out I was pregnant with Sofia (I still did the half marathon, just walking). Fast forward to Nico coming along a year and a half later… I’m rocking our third (!!!) kiddo to sleep this spring, thinking how I need to carve out some time for myself because I was pouring from an empty cup, so I signed up for the Queen Bee Half. A month later, the storm hit our house and we’ve been displaced to a hotel since. I don’t have my country roads and favorite running routes around our hotel, so I had to do a lot of “dreadmill” runs. I honestly opted out of some training because I couldn’t bring myself to hamster wheel it for two hours. I felt so unprepared and incapable right before this race, I almost bailed. But running and training always teaches me so much. I knew just showing up would be a reminder that I will show up for what is important to me no matter what gets in my way. My goal when I initially signed up was to run it in 2:30, but I had lost hope for that when I laced up yesterday. Once I started running, though, a fire burned inside me and that sign around mile 10 just IGNITED it. “Push” I thought. Push past the pain, the hurdles, your comfort zone, and reach that goal you had when you started! I BEAT my goal by four minutes, finishing in 2:26. I know it’s not record-breaking, but it’s a big deal for me. I’m so thankful to be able to run again, to learn these big life lessons with each race. Because, yes, I remember when I didn’t think it was possible. 💕
Goldfish Swim School is the BEST! It’s a learn-to-swim facility for kids ages 4 months to 12 years. They have The Science of SwimPlay® approach that builds life skills both in and out of the water using play-based learning in a fun and safe environment. I’ve been bringing my kids to Goldfish for years now and I can’t tell you how much of a confidence booster this is for them. And it puts my mind at ease knowing that they have such great swim skills at such young ages. My favorite things about going to Goldfish is that it’s a shiver-free, 90-degree pool, they have a max 4:1 student-to-teacher ratio for the classes. They have flexible class times and free make-up lessons. Tons of options too. They do free intro classes, a jump start clinic, technique clinics, swim lessons, family swim time, parties and events and even a competitive swim team! They now have these TWO locations, this beautiful brand new location in Anderson and the West Chester location which we’ve loved going to for years!
Definitely check them out if you have kids who might be interested! The free trial is the perfect way to see how they’ll like it, so give them a call to learn more about it or go online to get more info and sign up at www.goldfishswimschool.com.
