Kit and Ace Launch Party

The clothing company Kit and Ace had their launch party for their new store in OTR tonight. This company was started by the same family who founded lululemon, their slogan is “luxury you can live in.” The clothing is simple, classic and has a softness that would put the Snuggles fabric softener bear to shame. Comfy enough to be lazy around the house in but cute enough for a night on the town – a perfect combo! These pieces will quickly become a staple in your wardrobe. They have a new shop in OTR, so go visit their new amazing store at 1405 Vine Street!  Here are a few pics from the launch party we attended…

IT’S A GIRL!

"Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world." ~Marilyn Monro
“Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world.” ~Marilyn Monroe

Last Friday began as a regular day, but ended as one of the best days of my life so far. As I announced a couple weeks ago on Cincy Chic… I’m preggo!! And ever since we found out, I’ve been itching to know the gender so I can start shopping and decorating. A friend of mine told me that Becoming Mom in Mason has an “I can’t wait” package where you can find out the gender as early as Week 16, versus Week 19 or 20 when your OB/GYN typically does their anatomy check where gender is usually determined.

My husband and I in front of Becoming Mom in Mason, about to find out the gender!!
My husband and I in front of Becoming Mom in Mason, about to find out the gender!!

So, because I truly couldn’t wait to know, this was the perfect package for me! I made our appointment for Friday at noon, but I had no idea what kind of special experience I was in store for. We walked in Becoming Mom and it felt like a spa (which it actually is, in addition to a maternity boutique and ultrasound clinic). A welcome change from the cold, sterile ultrasound rooms at my doctor’s office. So, we step into a room that’s decorated like a cozy room I’d find at home, with a big screen up on the wall.

Little did I know that our little bundle of joy would shortly appear on that big screen so that every little movement, finger and toe was larger than life. The sonographer began the screen and immediately confirmed that we wanted to know gender — yes yes yes!! — and apparently our little peanut was ready to share what SHE is! Yes, it’s a GIRL! EEEEEE!!! A mini me!!! haha! So excited!

Then, for the next five or ten minutes, the sonographer continued her scan to show us each little arm, leg, foot, hand, finger and little toe. There was even a point where our little girl stood completely still on the screen except for one little hand bending, looking like she was waving to us through the screen. It completely melted my heart!

Speaking of heart… the sonographer then pressed a button so that we could hear the heart beat. She even recorded it and put it into a stuffed animal we got to pick out . So, now whenever I want to hear our little girl’s beating heart, I just need to give the little bunny they gave me a squeeze and the sound of her heart beating is loud and clear, warming my heart with each little thump.

I couldn’t help but let the happy tears flow watching my little girl squirm around on the screen. It was such a special experience. So, I HIGHLY recommend going to Becoming Mom if you’re a mom-to-be. I’m definitely going to be back to get spa services and visit the boutique when I can no longer fit into “real” clothes!

I’ll keep you updated with any more news about this itty bitty fashionista I have in my belly! For now though, I have lots of shopping and decorating to do!! 🙂

Cincy Chic’s SEVENTH Anniversary Party Re-Cap!

My Chic team! (left to right) Drew Ross, Stephanie Zastawa, me, Gwendolyne Rodriguez, and Kerry Francis!

So…. my little dream of Cincy Chic not only became a reality and survived an amazingly craptastic economy… we turned SEVEN last week!! Can you believe it??

The super cute spread Cincy Style Bar had for us!
The super cute spread Cincy Style Bar had for us!

Of course, that gave me and my Chic team reason to celebrate, and celebrate in style we did! 🙂 I went with a Marilyn Monroe “Seven Year Itch” theme on the invites to staff… “celebrating seven years, and an itch to be even more fabulous this year!” Our first stop was at Cincy Style Bar to get glammed up for the occasion.

I love love love hosting events there. They just think of everything… they had colorful balloons, champagne chilling and a personalized cake waiting for us when we walked in! And of course, our nails and blowouts looked FAB after they worked their magic!

Then, I had Elements Limousine Service pick us up in their new party bus at the salon and take us to CRAVE Restaurant down on the Banks. I wish I would have told the driver to take a scenic route because we had SO much fun on the bus! It had two large TV screens, room to walk and dance around, and an amazing sound system! But, within a few minutes, we were at CRAVE, and boy were we hungry!

The party bus!

So, we loaded up on apps, entrees and yummy cocktails. Since I have a bun in the oven (woohoo!), I thought I’d just be doing water for the night but the server told me about this amazing “Cranberry Bubbles” virgin cocktail with fresh cranberries, ginger ale, thyme, rosemary and other fresh herbs. It was SO delish! The favorite among the drinker Chic’ers was the “Sweet Heat” martini with Bacardi Dragon Berry, white cranberry, mango, jalapeño, and St. Germain.

After dinner, I invited all our Cincy Chic columnists to meet the staffers, because with us being an online publication, many of them had never met before! It was neat to have everyone together and thank them for all that they do to make Cincy Chic special…. toasting to seven successful years and the best one yet to come!

And thank YOU for reading! We wouldn’t be able to do what we do without your support! Get ready for an exciting year ahead because  we have a Chic seven year itch to be even more fab in 2014!!!

Meet the Expert: Mi Salon Spa’s Deanna

Every day for the next couple of weeks, I’m going to introduce you to a new team member at Mi Salon Spa in Florence Kentucky! Why? Well, a few months ago, we held our “School’s Back, Mom Relax” event there and I learned so many fun tips and tricks from  the experts I met that night that I decided to go back and interview them, see what inspires them, what they specialize in, and learn some helpful tips along the way! You can click here to follow along with all the posts in this series, and check back often for these daily posts so you can meet the whole team!!

Today’s interview is with hair stylist Deanna. She’s worked at Mi Salon Spa now for about 11 years, and her specialty as a hair stylist is providing Keratin Treatments. Deanna says Keratin is a hair-straightening product that’s applied to your hair and she uses the heat of a flat iron to seal it in. If you usually style your hair straight, a Keratin hair-straightening treatment could shorten your blow-dry time by 40% to 60%.

Deanna has a few tips for making your Keratin Treatment last longer: Don’t wash your hair for three or four days after getting the treatment, because the solution takes time to work. After you get a Keratin Treatment, and after the don’t-wash waiting period, you should use sodium-sulfate-free shampoo to help maintain the results! They have two types of Keratin Treatments, one that will last up to six months, and an express treatment that will last about two months if you’d just like to dip your toe in the water!

Meet the Expert: Mi Salon Spa’s Sherry

Every day for the next couple of weeks, I’m going to introduce you to a new team member at Mi Salon Spa in Florence Kentucky! Why? Well, a few months ago, we held our “School’s Back, Mom Relax” event there and I learned so many fun tips and tricks from  the experts I met that night that I decided to go back and interview them, see what inspires them, what they specialize in, and learn some helpful tips along the way! You can click here to follow along with all the posts in this series, and check back often for these daily posts so you can meet the whole team!!

Today’s interview is with esthetician Sherry. She’s been at Mi Salon Spa for 10 years now, and specializes in chemical exfoliations and enzyme facials. According to Sherry, enzyme facials are the perfect day time treatments because they take  about 40 minutes to do, and have no downtime. This fab treatment targets many skin conditions including acne, irritating spots, dull and tired skin, greasy areas, blackheads and irritable or dry skin!

Sherry also does eyelash extensions! She says these eyelash extensions are lashes applied with a stronger adhesive than temporary lashes. Generally, a single lash is applied to each natural lash. The bond is designed to last until the lashes naturally fall out. Sherry said a tip to make the extensions last longer is to not used oil-based eye makeup remover and to let your face air dry after washing it or taking a shower because oil and touching the lashes will weaken the bond between the lash and the adhesive! What a great tip!
