Dates Announced for Cincinnati Fashion Week 2011

Last night I went to dinner with Nathan Hurst, the mastermind behind Cincinnati Fashion Week. When I got home, I found this press release in my inbox announcing the new look, programs and 2011 dates for Cincinnati Fashion Week! I love the new logo that Landor created (by the way don’t forget to check out the display they have in the Landor windows downtown! It’s tres cool!).

I’m very excited about this year’s Cincinnati Fashion Week and all that’s in store for it. Nathan really seems to have a great team helping him, it seems very well-planned out this year, and the programming is dynamite! There will be male focused events, a showing of a private collection of Japanese fashion, and art history programming (few people know about the important role Cincinnati had in the fashion industry decades ago).

Nathan said he’s dedicated to making CFW just as prestigious as the “big four” fashion weeks.  From all I learned about CFW 2011, he’s going to be well on his way. I highly recommend marking your calendar for all of this year’s CFW activities – use a week of vaca if you need to – it’s going to be amazing.

Cincinnati Fashion Week 2011

New Look, New Programs, and More

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CINCINNATI – January 31, 2010 – CINCINNATI FASHION WEEK 2011 announces the second annual celebration of art, fashion and design to be held in the city of Cincinnati. Scheduled dates are Monday May 9 – Sunday May 15, 2011. Founded in 2009, the industry driven platform offers a unique opportunity to nurture the next wave of major design talent by establishing an on-going presence of global fashion in communities across the Midwest.

Now in its second year, the movement holds true to its promise to bring fashion, retail, and philanthropy to the Midwestern forefront of style. To build upon its early success, Cincinnati Fashion Week has fine-tuned the official event programming to include an even higher level of national and international talent, higher learning opportunities, and deeper connections with Midwest retailers.

In addition to the new programming, a new logo and branding has been created on behalf of Landor Associates Cincinnati, a leading strategic branding consulting and design firm. “The support of the inspirational team at Landor amongst a young fashion movement, has demonstrated a common wealth in the artistic community that reaches beyond success, beyond politics, talent, and beyond mediums; in fact, it catches creativity right at the spark of inspiration, when the best use of our talents is to share them and inspire others to do the same,” commented Cincinnati Fashion Week founder Nathan Hurst.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
“Fashion is a lifestyle which adapts on a personal level, and reflecting this message for 2011 was most significant. To truly bring fashion to the Midwest, we must continue to have a dialogue about how we view fashion in our lives,” commented Nathan Hurst, Founder & CEO of Cincinnati Fashion Week.

In 2011, Cincinnati Fashion Week will evolve with the community it helped to establish by delivering what may be the largest fashion industry driven production seen within the Central Midwest.

Guests of official events at Cincinnati Fashion Week will be guided through a week of fashion inspired events led by national & international figures in the fashion community, including couture collectors, media personnel, fashion designers, retail historians, and much more.
Complete itinerary to be released within the coming weeks.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT:
In addition to the new programming, a new logo and branding has been created on behalf of Landor Associates Cincinnati, a leading strategic branding consulting and design firm.

A full list of events will be released in the coming weeks. For more information about Cincinnati Fashion Week please go to www.cincinnatifashionweek.com

A FASHION MOVEMENT:
Cincinnati Fashion Week is a socio-economic campaign, designed to boost Cincinnati retail revenue, to support and retain young and professional talent, and to continuously raise awareness for Cincinnati’s prospering quality of life.

Cincinnati-based Independent Bridal & Evening Wear designer Lindsey Lusignolo is just one example of success in Midwest fashion.

After making her debut at Cincinnati Fashion Week 2010. Lindsey’s ability to infuse design elements from the roaring 20’s and glamorous 30’s, with cutting edge modernism and unconventional chic wearability, has made her a reoccurring name amongst socialites and brides across Greater Cincinnati. Lindsey’s production and showroom is scheduled for a Grand Opening in Spring 2011.

HOW IT BEGAN:
Cincinnati native, Nathan Hurst, created Cincinnati Fashion Week after making his national debut as an emerging fashion designer at San Francisco’s City Hall. Showcasing his then third collection, he realized the lack of a centrally based platform for professional talent and further, a lack of overall cultural awareness for fashion in the Central Midwest. Inspired by the opportunity to create a catalyst to deliver the excitement and thrill of fashion, design and retail, as noted by Cincinnati Mayor, Mark Mallory, Hurst launched the very first Cincinnati Fashion Week.

The excitement of fashion in the heartland of the Midwest went viral and soon a true “grass-roots movement” was born. Cincinnati Fashion Week produced a weeklong itinerary that drew attendance from over 2,500 fashion enthusiasts, gained 5,500 social-media followers and swept every corner of radio, television, print publications and online blog-sites featuring Midwest fashion & nightlife. The first year success established Cincinnati as a widely acclaimed fashion and lifestyle destination, paving the way for a Midwest Fashion Movement.

Complimentary Makeup Application at Bajon Salon

Jane Iredale Foundation ... aka dippin' dots! : )

As I gabbed in last week’s  award-winning issue of Cincy Chic, I love Jane Iredale makeup. I mean L-O-V-E! It provides great coverage, but it’s light (because it’s mineral makeup), so it’s like having the best of both worlds.

A makeup artist who did a lot of work for TV stars actually developed this makeup, so as an added benefit, it looks dynamite on camera (photos and video).

My favorite is the liquid foundation. It looks like “dippin’ dots” in the container, but when it goes through the pump, it comes out like regular-looking foundation. This process is supposed to make the makeup look more fresh, but it’s also a cheap form of entertainment! haha!

I just learned that Bajon Salon & Spa now offers this line. Only a few places carry it locally so I’m happy to be adding to the list for where I can pick some up when I run out! I’ve been able to find it at at Mitchell’s Salon & Day Spa, Dr. Mendelsohn‘s office in Rookwood, Avalon in Rookwood plaza (by Biggs) and Tuscany Salon and Spa by Harper’s Point.

To celebrate their new product offering, Bajon is offering a complimentary makeup application. If you buy $75 of Jane Iredale Makeup you get a $40 Makeup Application for free! The owner told me that the staff at Bajon’s has been training for four months to prepare for this big day! So, let them get your ready for a big night out or a special occasion when you want to look extra snazzy (Valentine’s Day is coming up soon!).

PS thanks to my intern, Holly Hoover, for helping me put this blog together.

Black and White Exchange Grand Opening Event Jan. 26

A couple weeks ago, I told you about Black & White Exchange, a new boutique opening in Sharonville. Since then, I went in and got the fierce “Fabushoe Friday” shoes pictured above. They’re Bebe brand (the BWE owner bought a bunch of Bebe stock to start the store) and I get so many compliments on them!

To celebrate the grand opening of the boutique, they’re hosting an event on Jan. 26 starting at 6p.m. When I told the owner I’d be blogging about my new hot heels, she told me to say that anyone who comes to the event on the 26th and mentions “Cincy Chic” will get an additional 15% off their purchase.

Remember you can buy and sell items there, so if you have any LBDs (or even wedding dresses) you want to sell, bring those with you to the event. See you there!

BYOB (brush) Event at Perfections Salon

I just got an invite to this event. The name is very clever! The event concept is very practical too. After reading my email and this invite over coffee this morning, I got ready and looked at my brush with its old bristles fraying every which way. I wondered when and where I actually bought my brush and I honestly couldn’t remember. Granted, I can’t remember what I ate for lunch two days ago, but still. I think it’s time for a new brush, so I’ll definitely be heading to this event for a new one. I doubt I’ll be bringing this relic of a brush though. I should probably take it to the history museum instead. : )

Posh up Your Profile Pic

With about 600 million users on Facebook now, it’s no longer just a social network. It’s now a utility. Something you need … water, heat, trash removal and Facebook.

I know it sounds funny, but as the owner of an online-only business where facebook is my largest link referral (second only to Google) I do see it as a necessity. It also helps me find clients and new hires at Cincy Chic. Several of our interns have been from listings we post on our Facebook page.

With that said, it always boggles my mind when people have a cruddy profile picture. Really? More people probably see this photo in a day than see your REAL face in REAL life. This is what people use to see if they should hire you, friend you, or “like” you, so it should be one heck of a good photo.

I recently read this funny article about the five profile photos that make you look like a tool. The list included “group photo,” “photo of you drinking,” “picture of your dog,” “picture of your baby,” or my favorite “random inanimate object.” I would also add “super blurry photo” or “too small to even see photo” to that list.

So, if you’re thinking “wow, I really need to update my profile pic” after reading this, I have a great event for you to attend. I just got this email from Saks inviting me to come. Unfortunately, I can’t go because we’re having our Cincy Chic anniversary party that night (yay! we’re four years old!), but hopefully you can go! Especially if your profile pic needs some poshing up!

Cincinnati Boutique Sale Dates Announced

Today I was on Fox19 (click here to watch the video segment) talking about looks for New Year’s Eve. I picked four outfits from Paris J Boutique for the segment. In the green room as we were getting ready, Teresa the owner of Paris J, mentioned that the date for the Cincinnati Boutique Sale had just been selected and announced. I tried to contain my excitement, but I think I let out a little squeal. : )

They usually keep this date a secret until the very last minute because they don’t want their clients to hold off on buying things to get them at a discount at the sale. But, the cat’s officially out of the bag, so mark your calendars…

Tom Ford Trunk Show Tomorrow at Gamine

What do Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston have in common… other than Brad Pitt? Tom Ford Sunglasses of course!

They’ve both been spotted trotting around Tinseltown in these spectacular specs. Lots of other stars love this brand, too…  Gwenyth. Rihanna, Demi, and Kim Kardashian just to name a few.

Me in my Tom Fords... this picture makes me laugh every time. A friend snapped it while I was test driving a super fun SmartCar convertible!

Well, here’s your chance to share shades with the stars. I just found out about a Tom Ford sunglass trunk show going on tomorrow at Gamine, an adorable store in Dayton (promise it’s worth the drive). On Dec. 16 from 1-5pm, their Tom Ford rep will be at the store that day with all the latest styles for women and men.

They’re giving 15% off all Tom Ford Sunglasses purchases that day. Plus, if you bring in an unwrapped toy for them to donate, they’ll give you an additional 5% off your Tom Ford purchase! The price tag for this brand averages around $300-$400, so a 20% discount can save you a big chunk of change.

Here’s where you can find Gamine (formerly The Pink Daisy):
2504 Far Hills Ave.
Dayton, OH 45419

Like I said, it’s a drive, but I promise it’s worth it! They carry lines by Velvet, Milly, Nanette Lepore, Michael Stars, Tory Burch, J Brand, Susanna Monaco, Chan Luu, Kendra Scott, Big Buddha, Joie, Paige Denim, Diane von Furstenburg and Theory. Gamine is like Cincy’s north star of fashion!
