12 Days of Seasonably Chic: Day 1

Frisch's Pumpkin Pie
Frisch's Pumpkin Pie

Today’s the last day before the Seasonably Chic Showcase! WOOHOO! I’m so excited!

Now, I’ve told you all about the mens, womens and kids fashions and gifts that’ll be there at the showcase. But I haven’t really talked about the food. The yummy, delicious, mouth-watering, drooling-a-little-thinking-about-it food that will be there.

Frisch’s is our title sponsor of the event so they’re providing all the tasty treats. When I first met with the marketing manager there, Karen, we discussed having pie tastings. I thought… mmmmm… cold day… burning lots of calories holding shopping bags… perfect time for a piece of pumpkin pie, right?

She loved the idea… so much so that not only did Karen decide to donate 100 pieces of Frisch’s famous pumpkin pie to be handed out at the event, but she also donated 100 breakfast sandwiches, 75 spicy spuds, and 100 salads.

Some of the food will be catering the “Botox & Brunch” that Kurtzman Plastic Surgery is putting on (sorry, it’s sold out!), but the rest will be given out at the Frisch’s booth at the event for you to taste test!

The Cincy Chic staff and I actually just held one of our weekly meetings we usually have at the office, at a Frisch’s instead. Karen even came to meet my staff! It was so fun! She’s been there for more than 30 years, so she had some great history to share with us.

She told us how the drive-thru window is actually an evolution from the drive-in restaurant days. Karen said that the pumpkin pie is made at the local Frisch’s commissary. Oh, and she also said the pie recipe was created more than 40 years ago and remains a super guarded secret!

All this talk about this pie, now I really can’t wait to eat some tomorrow! They will be doing the tastings and then also taking pie reservation orders ($8.45 for a pie) if you want to get one before Thanksgiving! I love doing that and then trying to play it off at Thanksgiving like I made it. My mom is pretty gullible so she usually falls for it at first. Then everyone reminds her that mine would be a lot less tasty and probably a little deformed. haha!

See you tomorrow! I’ll be the one with all the shopping bags scarfing down a big piece of pie! : )

The Seasonably Chic Showcase will be on November 6th at The Pheonix downtown from 10 am to 3 pm. This event brings 40 of the Tri-State’s best boutiques and vendors–for women, men, children, and pets–all under one roof for one day of spectacular shopping! The best thing about it? It’s free to get in! Just bring a canned good for the Freestore food bank! Click Here to RSVP!

The special Cook for the Cure pink mixer will be raffled off at the event, and the other three are being given away in some really fun, unique ways. Here are the deets…

12 Days of Seasonably Chic Showcase: Day 3

It’s hard to believe, but the Nov. 6 Seasonably Chic Showcase is three itty bitty days away! The Tri-State’s best boutiques and vendors will be there for all your one-stop shopping needs. So, here’s a sneak peek of some of the vendors you’ll see there, and my favorite things they offer!

FENNOfashion
Founded upon the principles of creating trendy, vintage style accessories, FENNOfashion offers trendy and earth-friendly products through their online store. Megan Fenno, the owner and designer of FENNOfashion, is a Cincinnati native who works to be an active part of the community and raise environmental awareness. She’s so great, Cincy Chic featured Megan as the 2009 Fashion Woman of the Year! So, when you give someone FENNOfashion accessories, you can tell them it’s award winning and eco-friendly fashion! For me, earrings are a necessity and there were so many to choose from here. But, I found the pair that are a must-have… nothing like I’ve ever seen before! These Amber Teardrop Mesh Earrings are the perfect way to dress up those casual tee’s, or add a hint of glamor to your regular Saturday night. Either way you look at it, these are the one thing a girl needs to spice up her wardrobe!

Sweet Petit Desserts
This week is our “Sweets Issue” on Cincy Chic. So, as I edited the stories, it very difficult to not consume my weight in cupcakes. One story in particular this week is about Sweet Petit Desserts, and it interviews Owner Taren Kinebrew for the story behind her bite-size desserts – click here to read it! Made from the finest ingredients, the utmost care and a whole lot of love, Sweet Petit Desserts are luxurious bite sized treats bursting with flavor. Taren makes them small so you can indulge without overindulging. (I was wondering how she can be around sweets all day and stay so skinny!) With cheesecake pops, to brownie bites,  petit fours, to chocolate covered strawberries–Sweet Petit offers you any sweet treat you need for your upcoming holidays events. Their products are almost too cute to eat! Shown here is a display of some of their many desserts, check them out at the Seasonably Chic Showcase on Nov. 6th to find your favorite!

My parents live out of town, so when they come in for holidays, the last thing I want to do is spend all that precious time in the kitchen. Tastefully Simple has the solution! If you haven’t heard of it before, they have wide variety of easy-to-prepare foods designed to help people spend less time in the kitchen and more time enjoying the rest of their lives. Most of the foods just require you to add one or two ingredients, stir and you’re done! You can find their  products through independent consultants like Anna Weinel. Find something tasty for yourself, or buy holiday gifts for your loved ones. Offering recipes and mixes, Tastefully Simple will leave you wanting more! Following along with my other festive choices, I could not stop looking at their Cranberry Apple Cobbler mix. I could smell the scent of the holiday through the pictures! Just buy the mix and you only have to add butter and water to prepare the perfect holiday dish! Take one look at this picture, and tell me you can resist this!

12 Days of Seasonably Chic Showcase: Day 4

Ahh! The big day is only four days away! Here’s a sneak peek of some of the vendors you’ll see at the Nov. 6 Seasonably Chic Showcase… as well as some “favorite things” me and my intern Drew Ross picked out. We’re like the new Oprahs – except not as popular or rich. : )

Little Liza Jane’s Boutique:
Drew and I are super proud to be an Aunt and Uncle. Being as such, we both almost emptied our bank accounts to buy everything at this adorable boutique. Little Liza Jane’s Boutique, located in Montgomery, is a great place to spoil your child or a child close to you. Pictured to the left is an organic rattle and blanket set we fell in love with. The best part about this is the 100% organic fabric. Kids like to put everything in their mouth (and who knows where else), so it’s good to know it’s organic and not dripping with harmful chemicals. Little Liza Jane’s is also a consignment shop! We’re working with them to do the 2:30pm fashion show at Seasonably Chic, so you’ll definitely want to check out that show that’s sure to be cuteness overload.

Exclusive A Tamra Berry Studio:
We’ve worked with Exclusive: A Tamra Berry Studio a few times on events, and every time I’ve been blown away with how amazing our models look. Tamra Berry is a makeup master and has a true attention to detail. So much so, she developed her own line of makeup (Exclusive), which she sells in her shop in Glendale. I went through her portfolio, and I was mesmerized by all the bridal pictures. Featured is a picture that I absolutely loved – how gorgeous and effortless does she look? Seriously.

J. Hilburn Men’s Clothier:
J. Hilburn Men’s Clothier
, a custom men’s clothier, is an amazing outlet for men to really get something that fits perfectly. You get to pick the fabric, pick the fit, and pick the style. They have everything from business, casual, and formal with all of your needs in mind. J. Hillburn also carries accessories like cufflinks, socks, and belts. There are plenty of options to choose from and you’re not paying more for the perfect fit. Featured is a fabric swatch that I couldn’t stop going back to. There are 500 J. HIllburn style advisors nationwide. You know, they say navy is the new black this year!

W by Worth:
W by Worth provides women with so many options and they have everything from business attire to going out on the town. W by Worth has high fashion for the everyday woman. Featured is a runway look that is too chic to pass up. This would definitely make your coworkers stop and stare. Well, at least at our office. Heck, I would promote you if you wore this at my office! haha! The uniqueness of this look continues to amaze me. There are an awful lot of fabrics and textures here, but they’re put together in a way that makes the look flawless. You can check all of the looks out at www.worthw.com

LouLou’s Boutique:
I told you about the Westside boutique I shopped at that had the most unfortunate name in the history of boutique names…ever. Well, good news, she changed the name! Nancy, the owner, was calling it “Uniforms for Moms,” but they carried neither uniforms or maternity wear, so it was confusing. But now she’s calling it LouLou’s Boutique, named after her late mother. This name is much more fitting, and the personal story behind the name is very touching.

And I promise you, you’ll love their clothing – comfortable yet classy, simple but not sloppy, chic but not overdone or overpriced. LouLou’s is doing our 11:30am fashion show to showcase all the hottest looks for fall and winter. Below is a sneak peek of the 11:30am fashion show with LouLou’s I did on Fox19 this morning.

12 Days of Seasonably Chic Showcase: Day 5

French Lavender Soap $6
French Lavender Soap $6

The countdown is on one hand now! We’re five days away from the Nov. 6 Seasonably Chic Showcase! Here’s a sneak peek of some of the vendors you’ll see there, and my favorite things they offer!

Miss Selby’s Soap
A couple months ago, a friend of mine and I tried to make lavender soap with lavender I grew in my garden. It was a major disaster, and I have a new-found respect now for this vendor who will be at the showcase: Miss Selby’s Soap. The creator, a local gal, Renee Selby makes soaps that use all natural ingredient and essential oils from the comfort of her own home and sells them from her online store. Some stand out scents are Fresh Lavender and Eucalyptus Lime. Or if you want your soap to reflect your holiday mood try the Natural Cinnamon or Christmas Cookie! Make sure you pick up a bar of Pet Shampoo for your furry friends!

The Longaberger Company with Kim Artmayer

Sort and store make-up basket from The Longaberger Company with Kim Artmayer

I remember when I learned how to weave baskets in elementary school. And as much as my mother, who kept many of my art projects, would argue – mine cannot compare with The Longaberger Company with Kim Artmayer. These baskets are a beautiful way to decorate your home or they would make a memorable gift for the holidays. They even have a holiday collection full of woven baskets that are inspired by the colder weather and holiday cheer! Be sure to look at their sort and store baskets that will inspire you to make your New Year’s Resolution of “getting more organized” a reality! But my favorite is the sort and store make-up basket.. I can already envision a perfect sport for it in my bathroom!

The Epicurean tie from Artfully Disheveled

Artfully Disheveled
For all of those men out there who need a little – or even a lot – of assistance in the style department, this men’s fashion line will be sure to help.
Artfully Disheveled is geared towards that man who wants to stand out… in a good way! They specialize in ties, bow ties and pocket squares that will be sure to transform your man’s outfit into something sexy and sophisticated without looking like he’s trying too hard! I met Chris Berre, one of the founders, recently for coffee and he showed me some of the items they’ll soon have online. The patterns are what stood out the most for me – like this silverware pattern – how unique is that? Artfully Disheveled is in the process of launching their online store, so stopping by this booth at Seasonably Chic Showcase is a must!

corwyn
Corwyn tying my husband's tie before our wedding

Corwyn Apparel
We’ve written about Corwyn before in Cincy Chic. I even suited up all our groomsmen in his ties for our wedding. But if you haven’t heard about Corwyn yet, you certainly will know who he is after the showcase. He’s bringing some star power to the event! Kwame Jackson from NBC’s “Apprentice” will be at his booth decked out in the latest Corwyn Apparel fashions. And this isn’t the first time, Corwyn as rubbed shoulders with the rich and famous. These neckties have been seen on many red carpet events such as The Grammy’s, Golden Globes and The Academy Awards. Corwyn Apparel knows that image and attitude are the defining accessory. So if your man’s tie collection would use a face lift, than look for further!

12 Days of Seasonably Chic Showcase: Day 6

We’re less than one week away from the Nov. 6 Seasonably Chic Showcase! The anxiety is killing me, so I’ve been doing a little pre-shopping and I found a few more things I want to share!

Tulips on Erie

Bracelet from Tulips on Erie

Located in the Hyde Park Square shopping district, this boutique can supply all your holiday hostess needs while offering a wide array of gifts for all your girlfriends (oh, and of course yourself, too!). Everything from dishes, to bath and body products, purses, jewelry, stationery and tableware. Tulips on Erie gives an artistic twist to our classic “girly” favorites. Especially for the artisian in your life, Tulips on Erie is a must-have shopping stop on your list this year. Bangle bracelets are a classic favorite, and I found a wide selection distinct to their style. These vintage lace Batiks offer hand painted gold red ribbon, lace bangles, and solids. They come in two sizes for smaller or larger wrists, in many shapes and colors. My favorite was a vintage gold lace bangle (pictured here, and note that I did not want to take it off!), it would be perfect for the most fabulous addition to that holiday cocktail attire.

The Sassy Mama Boutique

handbag from The Sassy Mama Boutique

With the Posh Mom Seal of Approval, The Sassy Mama Boutique has the latest trends for the mothers in our lives, or our favorite “posh peanuts.” They offer a fun, upscale environment to help you buy for all the phases of your life. Shop here to find all you need to feel like a full-fledged Sassy Mama, even if you don’t ever stay out past curfew : ). I have already purchased things from this online boutique before and I loved the products and experience – click here to read the story about it. On their website you can find home decor, necessities for you child’s birthday, along with any and all accessories you need to feel like the chic-est girl in the room. It seems that many women feel they must sacrifice their cute handbags to carry diaper bags when those little ones come along. But, make no more sacrifices ladies! Sassy Mama offers diaper clutches as a chic solution that include changing pads and will house diapers, wipes, and even a few toys. Any mother and fashionista has to have one of these, as they are compatible with any designer purse!

Abbie Kate Spade flats at Monkee's of Madeira

Monkee’s of Madeira

This boutique is bringing the fashion week favorites right to the ladies of the Greater Cincinnati area. Monkee’s of Madeira offers the best of boutique shopping experiences, with a fun and personal experience. As well as today’s hottest high fashion designers such as Cole Haan, Kate Spade, and Shoshanna just to name a few. They carry a variety of shoes, accessories, and clothing. As a frequent celebrator of Fabushoe Friday, my intuitions lead me straight to the shoe selection at Monkee’s (as they have before – click here to see a Fabushoe Friday pair I picked out at Monkee’s a couple months ago). This pair of Abbie Kate Spade flats is definitely a girly-girl’s dream. I mean, a woman can never have too many shoes—and she definitely can’t have too many pearls! Pearls and black patent flats just scream class (you know, if class could/would scream) and remind me of something Audrey Hepburn would wear.

Junior League of Cincinnati

With the holidays right around the corner, giving back to the community is a thought in the forefront of everyone’s minds. The Junior League of Cincinnati develops the potential of women and improves communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. The local chapter recently developed a cookbook with beautiful photos of tablescapes pictured at locations around the Tri-State. It’s really a beautiful book, and it goes to a great cause so make sure you stop by their booth and pick one (or five) up!

12 Days of Seasonably Chic Showcase: Day 7

We’re exactly one week away from the Nov. 6 Seasonably Chic Showcase! Here’s a sneak peek of some of the vendors you’ll see there, and my favorite things they offer!

Tracey Vest:
I’ve told you about the ever-fabulous Tracey Vest before. Well, she’ll be at the showcase and you’ll get to meet her in person! While checking out her site doing research for this blog, I found some amazing new stuff! Top of line purses, accessories, shoes and hats, OH MY! Elegance and style are the forerunners of Tracey’s designing in my opinion. Faux furs and feathers are coming in with a hit now a days and Tracey Vest is the perfect place to find it. Here is a hat that I couldn’t stop going back to. This peacock hat is elaborate and beautiful and would be especially fabulous if you frequent Keeneland or The Kentucky Derby. You can even wear it in the fall and spring while you’re at a gorgeous outdoor event. Tracey Vest’s designs are vivacious and full of style; go check it out.

Thoma & Sutton Eye-care:

Even though I am not an eyeglass wearer (I have a fake pair I wear when I want to look more Editor-ish! haha!), it doesn’t mean I was turned away from Thoma & Sutton’s “spec-tacular” designs. No, like I said before, I don’t wear glasses but I am a sucker for high fashion. With designers like Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Prada, and Blvgari, there is no going wrong coming to Thoma & Sutton Eye-care to find your frame of choice. And not to mention, their deals are out of this world! There are many Thoma & Sutton locations so there is no reason why you aren’t getting in your car to throw out those old lenses and upgrading. Heck, I’m even thinking about getting some of those frames from Thoma & Sutton and asking them for faux lenses. Like I said; high fashion, great deals. Featured is a fierce pair of Roberto Cavalli frames that are brand new in the Fall/Winter collection.

Carolyn & Company Dance Productions:
I’m so excited that Dancing with the Stars has brought so much new attention to the art/sport of dancing! I love dancing (especially Salsa!!!) and now lots of other people do too! I thought dance lessons would be a great gift to give a loved one so we asked Carolyn & Company Dance Productions to be a vendor at the showcase. Dancing is not for everyone and doesn’t come naturally to everyone, but the owner of Carolyn & Company Dance Productions, Carolyn Rollin, is suuuuper nice and takes her expertise to make dance easy and enjoyable for any type of dancer. The thing that I like the most about Carolyn is that she can teach you a dance specifically for your wedding day. The first dance as newlyweds will be forever in your mind … and photo album… You don’t want to look like Elaine from Seinfeld dancing when you look back! haha!

Arbitrage Clothing:
Arbitrage Clothing, wow. That’s the first thing that came to my mind when I first saw this line at Cincinnati Fashion Week. What a handsome, sleek-fitting line of clothing for every man. There are many different ways to shop on their site as well. You shop by features, you shop by item, you shop by collaborations, but then you hit my favorite. You can shop by your own personality. (But at the showcase… you don’t have to shop online! You can see it all in person!) The fit of the clothing is a tailored fit so it won’t be the typical dress shirt that hangs off of your body. I know my husband has a closet full of dress shirts (he’s an anchor, so it’s part of the job). But when he wants to wear one without a jacket or maybe just a pair of jeans, they look way too baggy. So, he of course rummages through his closet to find something else and we’re an hour late to where ever we were going. With Arbitrage, that’s not going to happen.

(Drew, Cincy Chic intern, speaking here…) I, myself, am a plaid guy, so, of course I had to feature this amazing REVERSIBLE plaid shirt. The efficiency of this line never fails. This is great for being relaxed in a pair of jeans but then you can tuck it in, put on some nice slacks and you have a fabulous, business casual shirt. Arbitrage has accessories like cuff links and wallets, to ties, shirts, and hooded button up shirts. This is every man’s dream clothing line.

PS: thanks to my intern, Drew Ross, for helping me put this blog together.
