Fabushoe Friday: Patent Leather Nude Pumps

Happy Fabushoe Friday! And today is a very special one, because I think I found the holy grail of shoes… They’re my new patent leather nude pumps (Jessica Simpson, $79) I bought on a whim recently at Macy’s. Seriously – best purchase EVER because I wear them all the time. Not only are they super comfortable and durable, but they also go with every outfit, color and occasion. I’m starting to wish I bought a few pairs actually! So, if you don’t already have these wardrobe staples in your closet – or you just need some inspiration for how to wear the ones you do have – here are four recent outfits where these new kicks took center stage.

CASUAL
To avoid pinches on St. Patrick’s Day, you have to wear green! But, while getting ready to meet my friends for the festivities, I realized I don’t have any cute green clothes! Ack! I decided to keep the color palette neutral and add in green with my accessories. The pumps added just the polish I needed for my a cream top and skinny jeans.

DATE NIGHT
Spring is all about color, especially this season, so I’m loving my bright coral polka dot dress. I will say, coral is a tough color to match a shoe to, though. That’s why the nude shoe is so fab! It went well with the dress, and I added depth and texture to the palette through some fun mauve feather earrings.

FORMAL
Ladies, we all love our go-to LBD, but don’t pair it with a boring black pump. Do something different and go nude! Nude shoe that is! haha! That’s what I did for a recent fundraiser I went to, and I got a ton of compliments! Plus the neutral pump and black dress palette let me add in some fab flair with gold, sea foam green and coral accessories.

WORK
The nude patent pump is the new power suit! I recently wore them to a ladies event at the Western Hills Country Club — the ladies raved about them and they were the best conversation starter! I had on an ivory ruffled dress with plum-colored accessories and matching cardigan. I love that the shoe can go from “9 to 9” with me every day because I rarely ever have time to stop and change after work before happy hour and events!

As if all these different ways to wear this shoe weren’t reason enough to love them… did you know nude heels like this also give the allusion of a longer leaner leg? It’s true! Also, if you travel a lot, but like to pack light, the nude pump is for you. Because it’s so versatile, it’s the only shoe you’ll need on the trip! Unless you’re going to a beach, of course. In that case, you’ll need to bring flip flops… and me. 🙂

Check out the video below as I open my closet door to share tips and outfit inspirations for these super chic shoes! Then, under the photos are the outfit inspirations! Have a great weekend!

Monkee Around at Monkee’s of Madeira

I just turned 29. So, I did a little shopping to celebrate the first anniversary of this monumental year (because I decided I will not be getting any older from this point forward). : )

My first stop was to Monkee’s of Madeira, a local boutique that’s quickly becoming my favorite. They’re located in the heart of.. yup, you guessed it… Madeira, right on Miami Ave. And they have what’s arguably the best selection of anything you might need from a boutique. With a little bit of everything – jewelry, belts, shoes (which is rare for a boutique), dressy, and some casual – it’s the perfect place to pop in if you need something special.

Liz, the owner, is usually there in-store. She’s super sweet and helpful. I just told her what I wanted: a sexy little dress to wear on a date with my hubby later that night. She steered me in the right direction to find a few options, helped me find a pair of shoes to match the LBD I picked out, and I was literally out the door in 20 minutes! I was shocked! Oh, and by the way, the shoes I got there are ah-maz-ing. I embedded a pic – they’re gold and gorgeous and I wish I could sleep in them I love them so much!

So, I just thought I should tell you about how great this boutique is, and encourage you to check it out! We also have a Facebook campaign going on right now on our Cincy Chic fanpage. “Like” Monkee’s of Madeira on Facebook and then post “Cincy Chic” on their wall. One lucky participant will be selected to win a $100 Monkee’s gift certificate!

Meeting an Idol: Sex and the City’s Candace Bushnell

There are some people in this world who we idolize and respect so much, that we never – in a million years – ever expect to meet. For me, Candace Bushnell was one of those people… until I got to meet her today!

Me and Candace Bushnell, author of "Sex and the City" (click to enlarge)

Candace Bushnell is the critically acclaimed, international best-selling author of Sex and the City, The Carrie Diaries, One Fifth Avenue, Lipstick Jungle, Trading Up, and Four Blondes. She was in town for a book signing of her newest book, Summer and the City. This coming-of-age story of one her most famous creations – Carrie Bradshaw – is the second book in the Carrie Diaries sequence, and it’s the prequel to Sex and the City.

I’m a lifestyle writer for women with a penchant for pretty shoes, so Candace (aka the real life Carrie Bradshaw!) is truly an inspiration. She’s been such a huge inspiration to be a writer, and start Cincy Chic (when I realized how many “Sex and the City”-type women there were in Cincinnati). So, it was absolutely amazing to meet her, get to know her on a personal level (she’s very personable and down-to-earth btw), and chat about her newest adventure, “Summer in the City.” It sounds like a great read and I can’t wait to drink in every word like I have with all her other books!

Check out my interview with her below! Enjoy!

Chic Shoe Storage Ideas

If there’s one problem with having a shoe fetish, it’s that you need a place to keep all of them! They’re too pretty to end up in a heap on the floor of your closet or tossed under the bed, but that’s what ends up happening! So I went on a hunt to find some helpful alternatives—and what I found are some fabulous ideas on how to store your shoes while keeping your living space looking chic as ever.

Who says you should only bring out that sexy pair of heels on special occasions? Show them off all day long! Think outside the (shoe) box by decorating a long hallway with shoes using simple built-in shelving. (Apartmenttherapy.com)
Transform a simple drawer into a fancy shoe showcase. (Dailybitsofbeauty.com)
Looking for a new piece of art? This shoe web turns your shoe collection into a modern art piece. (homeqn.com)
This curtain concept not only keeps your shoes out of sight, but also does a great job of organizing them. Buying your own storage boxes, as opposed to the mismatched ones your shoes originally come in, keeps the space looking uniform and tidy. (fashioninmotion.wordpress.com)
This one is my personal solution to my growing shoe collection. The bedframe in our spare bedroom is now my shoe storage! haha!

Whatever method you choose, your shoes will thank you. Have a happy Fabushoe Friday!!

Black and White Exchange Grand Opening Event Jan. 26

A couple weeks ago, I told you about Black & White Exchange, a new boutique opening in Sharonville. Since then, I went in and got the fierce “Fabushoe Friday” shoes pictured above. They’re Bebe brand (the BWE owner bought a bunch of Bebe stock to start the store) and I get so many compliments on them!

To celebrate the grand opening of the boutique, they’re hosting an event on Jan. 26 starting at 6p.m. When I told the owner I’d be blogging about my new hot heels, she told me to say that anyone who comes to the event on the 26th and mentions “Cincy Chic” will get an additional 15% off their purchase.

Remember you can buy and sell items there, so if you have any LBDs (or even wedding dresses) you want to sell, bring those with you to the event. See you there!

Two New Marshalls Open!

Boots from Enzo Angiolini
Enzo Angiolini studded boots

I know I normally stick to local boutiques, but with not one, but two locations opening up around Cincinnati, I had to gab about Marshalls. Last week, the stores opened their doors to the public with a grand opening celebration. One popped up next to the Eastgate Mall and another in Surrey Square in Norwood.

The store was packed with great purses, clutches, jeans, and of course fall boots! Both stores are fully loaded with their own “ShoeMega Shop.” They aren’t kidding when they say “mega,” either. They have tons of shoes!

So, in honor of boot lovers everywhere and to celebrate Fabushoe Friday, I had to snap a pic of some stand out studded boots by Enzo Angiolini. Talk about fab! Because I get a little overwhelmed with so many crazed shopping women, I decided not to buy anything (there’s a first time for everything…) but those boots are pretty amazing, so I’m pretty sure soon they will soon grace my closet.

12 Days of Seasonably Chic Showcase: Day 6

We’re less than one week away from the Nov. 6 Seasonably Chic Showcase! The anxiety is killing me, so I’ve been doing a little pre-shopping and I found a few more things I want to share!

Tulips on Erie

Bracelet from Tulips on Erie

Located in the Hyde Park Square shopping district, this boutique can supply all your holiday hostess needs while offering a wide array of gifts for all your girlfriends (oh, and of course yourself, too!). Everything from dishes, to bath and body products, purses, jewelry, stationery and tableware. Tulips on Erie gives an artistic twist to our classic “girly” favorites. Especially for the artisian in your life, Tulips on Erie is a must-have shopping stop on your list this year. Bangle bracelets are a classic favorite, and I found a wide selection distinct to their style. These vintage lace Batiks offer hand painted gold red ribbon, lace bangles, and solids. They come in two sizes for smaller or larger wrists, in many shapes and colors. My favorite was a vintage gold lace bangle (pictured here, and note that I did not want to take it off!), it would be perfect for the most fabulous addition to that holiday cocktail attire.

The Sassy Mama Boutique

handbag from The Sassy Mama Boutique

With the Posh Mom Seal of Approval, The Sassy Mama Boutique has the latest trends for the mothers in our lives, or our favorite “posh peanuts.” They offer a fun, upscale environment to help you buy for all the phases of your life. Shop here to find all you need to feel like a full-fledged Sassy Mama, even if you don’t ever stay out past curfew : ). I have already purchased things from this online boutique before and I loved the products and experience – click here to read the story about it. On their website you can find home decor, necessities for you child’s birthday, along with any and all accessories you need to feel like the chic-est girl in the room. It seems that many women feel they must sacrifice their cute handbags to carry diaper bags when those little ones come along. But, make no more sacrifices ladies! Sassy Mama offers diaper clutches as a chic solution that include changing pads and will house diapers, wipes, and even a few toys. Any mother and fashionista has to have one of these, as they are compatible with any designer purse!

Abbie Kate Spade flats at Monkee's of Madeira

Monkee’s of Madeira

This boutique is bringing the fashion week favorites right to the ladies of the Greater Cincinnati area. Monkee’s of Madeira offers the best of boutique shopping experiences, with a fun and personal experience. As well as today’s hottest high fashion designers such as Cole Haan, Kate Spade, and Shoshanna just to name a few. They carry a variety of shoes, accessories, and clothing. As a frequent celebrator of Fabushoe Friday, my intuitions lead me straight to the shoe selection at Monkee’s (as they have before – click here to see a Fabushoe Friday pair I picked out at Monkee’s a couple months ago). This pair of Abbie Kate Spade flats is definitely a girly-girl’s dream. I mean, a woman can never have too many shoes—and she definitely can’t have too many pearls! Pearls and black patent flats just scream class (you know, if class could/would scream) and remind me of something Audrey Hepburn would wear.

Junior League of Cincinnati

With the holidays right around the corner, giving back to the community is a thought in the forefront of everyone’s minds. The Junior League of Cincinnati develops the potential of women and improves communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. The local chapter recently developed a cookbook with beautiful photos of tablescapes pictured at locations around the Tri-State. It’s really a beautiful book, and it goes to a great cause so make sure you stop by their booth and pick one (or five) up!

The Seasonably Chic Showcase will be on November 6th at The Pheonix downtown from 10 am to 3 pm. This event brings 40 of the Tri-State’s best boutiques and vendors–for women, men, children, and pets–all under one roof for one day of spectacular shopping! The best thing about it? It’s free to get in! Just bring a canned good for the Freestore food bank! Click Here to RSVP!

Fabushoe Friday: Help with Your “Next Step”

$24 Shoes from Forever 21
$24 Shoes from Forever 21

This week for Fabushoe Friday, I’m wearing another pair of Forever 21 shoes. I actually got them three years ago, and they’ve held up pretty well. Especially considering they were only $24.

Three years ago, I was just starting my little shoe collection. These were the first ones I bought that had a little flair. Not the typical black, brown or navy pumps I’d buy for work. I had just started Cincy Chic the year prior, so I was just learning how to dress the “chic” part.

It’s crazy to think how different life is just three years later. I’m no longer just moonlighting as a budding entrepreneur; I now manage my business and staff as a full time job and career. And these shoes have taken me through much of that journey.

Of course, I had lots of friends, family and mentors help me along the way. Can’t give these fab shoes alllll the credit. : ) People power behind life transitions is so helpful. And kind of related to all this “starting a new chapter” stuff, I ran across an event one of my clients is holding next week. It’s called “Imagine… then do it” and it helps people slip into a new proverbial pair of shoes, and successfully strut into a new chapter in life – whether it’s going back to work after raising kids, changing careers or starting the business of your dreams.

I’ll be sharing info with you soon about a new publication my husband and I will be taking over soon, so I’ll definitely be in attendance to get some guidance on navigating this new chapter of our lives. And, you know what, I think I’ll buy some new shoes for the occasion and blog about them in three years! : )

Fabushoe Friday: Win Tickets to ‘Changing Shoes’

$24 shoes from Forever21
$24 shoes from Forever21

You’re getting a two-in-one special on this blog: First, I have to tell you about my discovery of the cheap but chic Forever21 footwear line; and second, I have to tell you about the giveaway I’m doing of “Changing Shoes” tickets!

Pictured in this blog are the shoes I’m wearing today. I got them at Forever21 for $24! I was pretty skeptical of Forever21 at first, thinking it was only for teenagers, but then I found some really great tops, jeans and sweaters there. And just recently I found their footwear department.

I’m rough on my shoes, so it’s difficult to justify spending any more than $30 on them unless they’re for special occasions. So, I was in love with F21’s footwear, because most pairs were in the $20-$30 range! And they were super cute and on-trend! I was good and only got one pair. But in the words of the Terminator… “I’ll be back!” : )

Ok, now for the giveaway! After writing about “Changing Shoes” at the Aronoff Oct. 18, the PR people promoting the show contacted me and said Tina Sloan loved the blog and wants to give away tickets to the show on it! (ahhhhh!!!!!)

So, I set up a contest on our Cincy Chic Facebook page. Post a pic of your favorite pair of shoes before midnight tomorrow (Saturday Oct 16) on the Cincy Chic Facebook fanpage wall, and you’ll be entered to win one of two sets of tickets to “Changing Shoes” up for grabs. Two winners will be selected to win at midnight Oct. 16 and will be contacted at that time! Good luck and hopefully I’ll see ya at the show!
