2017 Seasonably Chic Showcase

Holiday Shopping Event at LouLou’s Boutique

Cincinnati’s Westside has one women’s fashion boutique that I know of… as a native westsider myself, I was excited to see it open many years ago, and how it’s grown. They have an active Facebook page, where they post about new arrivals and upcoming events. They posted recently about a “Jump Start the Holidays at LouLou’s” event that they’re hosting, and it sounds like fun, so I thought I’d share!

It’s on November 4 from 10 am to 3 pm at their boutique (6145 Bridgetown Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45248). They’ll have 20% off the entire store (including their “Happy Everything” line which is pretty exclusive and only goes on sale like this two times a year. The owner Nancy said she’s getting in a TON of new clothes and accessories, so you’ll have a lot to choose from. Plus, you’ll be able to get holiday ornaments personalized for free at the event! So fun!

Attached is the event invite — hope to see you there!

Sneak Peek: Miss Em’s Holiday Open House Nov. 5

Man, oh man! My favorite online accessory/gift item site, missems.com, is having their annual Holiday Open House Sunday Nov. 5 11am-5pm at the Anderson Senior Center in Anderson Township!

Not only is this an awesome opportunity to see all the HUNDREDS of pieces you can typically only find online — including bracelets, necklaces, earrings, purses, scarves, baby clothes, children’s gifts, holiday decor, and more — but there will also be other fabulous vendors there, too! She has LuLaRoe, Mary Kay, Usborne Books, Scentsy, Lipsense, and Thirty One currently scheduled to be there, and there could be more!

All of the jewelry is $25 or less, so it’s all VERY affordable. But get there early for the best selection. Most of the pieces she carries, she only has one of, so if you get there early, you’ll get the pick of the litter! 🙂

It’s for a good cause too! Bring a new, unused children’s toy worth $10 or more to donate to Children’s Hospital and receive 10% off your entire order from Miss Em’s. This is new! They haven’t done this in years past when I’ve come before, so that’s exciting! Even though the maximum discount you can get is 10% off (so you don’t get multiple discounts for bringing multiple toys) although I’m sure they’d LOVE It if you brought in more than one toy! Hey, it’s a great opportunity to offload the stuff your kiddos aren’t using to make room for all the goodies Santa will be bringing!

Here’s an event recap blog I did after going to one of Miss Em’s Holiday Open House events so you can see some examples of things I found. I included a few pics below of happy Miss Em’s customers wearing their fab finds, and also a sneak peek of some items on her site I’m excited to see in person at this year’s event!

I’m so excited! I hope you can join us! See below for all the event details.

Iris van Herpen Exhibit Review

Thanks to my intern, Kelly, for writing this chic review!

What do Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, and Effie from The Hunger Games all have in common? Each of these women have all been adorned by Iris van Herpen’s iconic pieces. Now, you also can experience these priceless collections at the Cincinnati Art Museum.

Known for her avant-garde sculptural designs, van Herpen works in collaboration with pioneers of technology, engineers, and architects to make her artistic visions come to life. Due to the complex nature of her designs and the materials used in their creation, van Herpen merged science and technology into fashion by 3D printing pieces in her collections. This innovative approach to design had never before been shown on high fashion runways. It is both beautiful and technical- technically beautiful.

The exhibit commands an air of reverence and awe as you explore both galleries. The dimmed overhead lighting sets the ambiance while spotlights create beautiful silhouettes on the striking pieces; a combination which takes your breath away and makes you feel as if you must speak in hushed tones out of respect for the art.

“For me, fashion is an expression of art that is very closely related to me and to my body. I see it as my expression of identity combined with desire, moods and cultural setting. Wearing clothing creates an exciting and imperative form of self-expression,” says van Herpen of her artistic philosophy.

van Herpen’s artistic philosophy is glaringly evident throughout her fashion collections due to the intention and clear inspirations guiding their creation. Each choice of material, each fold, each metallic detail is purposefully chaotic and invokes a reaction within the self. Everything van Herpen creates is inspired by a unique aspect of life- whether it be cellular, nuclear, magnetic, electric or the very simple magic that is water.

The texture and exquisite nature of the designs begs you to reach out and touch them-it took much restraint to not feel each of the pieces! But do not be discouraged; there is an interactive, sensory portion of the exhibit where you can physically experience the creations.

The exhibit also includes a video showcase of the most recent runways that have been graced by van Herpen’s collections. The shows themselves are performance art; set to heavy, tribal music, each is individual and drastically different all while carrying the same sense of awe and reverence towards what is being presented.

Frugalista Friday: Fabulous Fall Finds

Lots of cute fall stuff here at even better prices. Everything from blazers and handbags, scarves, cute tops, and then also, hats, tons of infinity scarves. Plus, flannel, sweaters, dusters, booties. Oh my gosh! And speaking of shoes, walls and walls and walls of fabulous fall boots. I couldn’t believe how many boots I found. All different colors: brown, tan, black, gray, and then plus, they have great fall dresses and sweaters and they paired them together so cute. Really cute outerwear, vests, and even things for your fall and winter sports.

Ok here are some of the great things I found: these Hunter boots, yeah, they were only $48. And these pom pom Steve Madden’s, you won’t believe the price on these, $15.50, and I love the cut on these caged CATO heels. So cute, only $12. And then, these booties, great color, original tags from Nordstrom $79, only $16 at Clothes Mentor. Can’t go wrong with a little black dress, either, and this one’s from The Loft, and it’s only $16. And then the necklace that goes with it, that’s only $8 at Clothes Mentor. Then I loved this fall sweater, it’s got a great hi-lo hemline, it’s got the cut-out cold shoulders, original tags on it even, and at Clothes Mentor it’s only $10.50. Lots and lots of great denim, these have original tags on them, they’re Joe Jeans, and retail price $169, well, at Clothes Mentor only $28. Then, these gray denim, so fabulous. Calvin Klein, original tags on it, only $14.50. Then this sweater, love the fringe at the bottom of it, great cable knit design, $12. This denim top, in a babydoll silhouette, it’s got original tags on it from Altered State, but you’re going to find it for only $10.50. Cute necklace that goes with it, it is only $6.50. I love that they have plus-size at Clothes Mentor. This pair of great denim is only $12.25.

And they also put together different outfits for you and have them on display, so you can have grab-and-go outfits. I love this quilted vest, it’s got some gold embellishments. You’re going to find that for $18.50 at Clothes Mentor. The long-sleeve top that goes with it, $10. And then the gold necklace, you can wear this with a ton of things – dress it up, dress it down, $6.50. And the bag that they have with it, it’s a crossbody Michael Kors, in kind of a maroon color, only $85.

Lots of athletic wear and athleisure, like this outfit they put together. The pants are only $12. The Adidas shirt that goes underneath it, it is only $9.25. And then the Nike jacket, love all the zippers on it, $15. Plus tons and tons of outerwear at Clothes Mentor. Like this navy, lightweight jacket, paired it with a checked top. The top is only $10.25 and the jacket itself is only $13.50.

And I really love the color on this olive green, army-inspired color from Old Navy:$15.50. And I absolutely fell in love with this dress from J. Crew, it was only $17, and the matching necklace that goes with it, $6.50.

I ended up buying all of it and tons and tons of other stuff. Stocked up for fall, I did leave a few things for you though so you have to come and visit! There’s tons of locations all over town, see which one is closest to you at clothesmentor.com.
