Snap Up These New Spring Looks (and Sale!)

snap boutiqueThe other day my hubby, the in-laws and I went to dinner at Teller’s in Hyde Park. We got an after-dinner coffee at Awakenings right down the block. On the way there, we passed Snap Boutique and they had the most adorable outfits in the window.

They were closed, but I did go online and “friend” them on Facebook and Twitter. We’ve written about them before in Cincy Chic, but I thought (for some reason) they were a teeny-bopper boutique and not for me. But after window shopping, I decided they were right up my alley, and I needed to stay up to date on all their new arrivals and sales!

Yesterday, Snap posted pics of their new Spring looks on their Facebook page and I am absolutely in love with each and every one of them. Just looking at them makes me a little warmer thinking about the spring-time sunshine, the smell of freshly cut grass and butterflies flitting about. (Which is much appreciated after last night’s random snow fall… what was up with that?)

Even better, on the Facebook page, it says you will get 10% off your purchase of one of these new Spring dresses (pictured to your right) if you come in and purchase this weekend! You don’t usually see discounts on new arrivals, and plus these are SUPER cute dresses, so I thought this was worthy of a blog post! I will definitely be visiting this weekend to see which dress looks best on! I will update if I make any purchases! : )

Come on SPRING!

Flock to Flocktails & Cocktails Tonight!

focktailsIn planning tonight’s ladies night, I came across a really fun fashion accessory designer! The designer’s name is Leslie Schall and her designs are called “Flocktails.”

We found her on Facebook and she sells her items on Etsy. They are super cute feather hair clips, which as I just mentioned in my Spring trend forecast blog, are very on-trend.flocktails

As someone with short hair, I struggle to find cute ways to spice up my look. I can’t pull my hair back or to the side in a pony tail, and even headbands are sometimes too much. If they are too thick, it makes it look like my hair is slicked back and/or like I have no hair …. which isn’t exactly a flattering look! : )flocktails

On the Flocktail Facebook page, they have pics of local ladies wearing the Flocktails out and about, and lots of the girls on there have short hair. These little bits of feathery flare look perfect with a short bob haircut!

We are having them at tonight’s ladies night at the Wise Owl Wine Bar in West Chester (which, by the way, my cousin is part owner of!). I can’t wait to see them there in person and maybe make some purchases! Oh, and my favorite mixologist Molly Wellmann will be there mixing up her couture cocktails.

Sounds like I have a night full of fun cocktails and flocktails ahead of me! Hope to see you there!

Four Must-Have Spring Trends

Spring Shoshanna
Spring Shoshanna

This weekend officially ushered in Spring! This morning I went for a run and the birds were chirping and the trees were budding.

I just love this time of year. Everything seems so vibrant and new! Same holds true for all the Spring trends on the racks right now. Lots of vibrant colors, playful prints and flirtatious silhouettes.

My friend Amy Maynard, owner of Soho Boutique in Hyde Park, goes to NYC (my fav fashion mecca) all the time and keeps her finger on the fashion-forward pulse to keep her boutique on-trend. So, I asked her to narrow down what she thinks are the biggest, best, must-have trends of Spring 2010.

Here’s what she told me:

1. Simple, Clean and Elegant. For Spring we are seeing a lot of very simple and classic designs. Pretty, clean lines with some small elegant and unique details. These pieces are versatile and timeless– something very important for the sophisticated, but smart woman today! With these pieces you don’t have to clean out your closet every season. You can add updated accessories and colors but continue to build a good solid wardrobe base. Think sheath dresses, shirt dresses, classic tailored jackets

2. Embellishments. With the simple elegant basics we are seeing touches of feathers, hardware and ruffles. We are seeing these embellishments added on hemlines, on belts and with jewelry. If you already have a good base wardrobe embellishments in the form of accessories is a great way to update your wardrobe.

3. Fun with Color. There are some colors we are seeing for Spring too! These are turquoise, cobalt, tomato and pink champagne! Be bold and do a beautiful dress with one of these colors or do a beautiful blouse and pair with a classic white pant or denim.

4. Blouses. We are seeing beautiful blouses this Spring. These are flowy, feminine and appropriate for many occasions. They can be tucked into denim or white pants. They can be belted with leggings (yes, leggings are here to stay for a while!) or paired with a simple pair of shorts or pencil skirt. The blouses are solid or printed– whatever you like best! A beautiful blouse is appropriate for almost any occasion.

For more info on belts, read my recent blog on the fun “B-Low The Belt” Belts at Soho and the unique ways you can incorporate these rocker-chic skinny belts into casual, professional and dressy outfits!

Jodi Arnold Trunk Show at The Wardrobe

I’m really excited about all the new stuff The Wardrobe Cincinnati has been doing lately. I recently blogged about their new men’s stuff, and just the other day I read that they have some golf apparel now too.

Well, I got an email from a PR gal with Jodi Arnold saying that they are hosting a trunk show at the Wardrobe April 9th – April 14th. I’m psyched because I just heard about this designer a few months ago when I learned she was launching a collection with The Limited. I’ve seen her stuff there and it’s super cute (think “boyfriend tank” meets “bedazzler” meets “chic enough to wear under a suit”).

Jodi is an interesting designer because she’s an up-and-coming designer who’s getting collections in huge stores like The Limited, but she’s still accessible enough where she’s doing personal shopping for her clients in Manhattan. And her designs look like things I could actually pull off. The Limited collection is much more my price point, but her high end stuff takes the runway trends (i.e., floral) and makes them wearable enough to be every day.

So, here’s the info about the trunk show!

An Eventful Day!

Lots of chic events going on tonight!

I already told you where I’ll be tonight. Blowdries and Baubles at the Chambers Packer Studio. They were asking for RSVPs, but I know they wouldn’t mind if you came by to join the fun with us! I’m going in to get my hair done this afternoon (and boy do I need it… my roots are almost two inches long… eek!) so I’ll be debuting the new look. And they’ll have their stylists giving tips on different hair types and talking about trends too. Oh, and cocktails…it is Friday after all! YAY!

If you’re in West Chester there are a couple events up your way tonight. As I told you before, Bajon Salon is celebrating their 10 year anniversary and are doing giveaways, discounts and cocktails tonight at their salon.

The Village Spa in West Chester is having a “Spring Bling” event tonight starting at 7pm. The invite said “come see and try on the latest trends in Spring jewelry and accessories,  courtesy of our own Stacy Young & her new company, Bling Culture. There will be plenty of fun and complimentary refreshments.”

The Village Spa is located at:
8862 CINCINNATI-DAYTON RD
WEST CHESTER, OH  45069

If you’re in the mood for something more fashion-forward, a fashion designer friend of mine, Toby Tyler, is having a fashion show event tonight in Clifton. Click here to view the invite and more information.

A Lill Big Event

We all have that super cool, fun, creative friend who we go to when we need a little artsy inspiration for a project …or just a good laugh. For me, that girl is Kristen Folzenlogen, the owner of Poeme in Hyde Park.

I don’t get to hang out with her nearly enough, but I love being around her. She always knows about some new hip company starting up or new product line… and I love visiting her store. She always has kitschy little gifts, the funniest cards, oh, and the BEST window displays. Kristen actually helped me design the Cincy Chic window display at our office in the Gateway Quarter!

A while back, Kristen told me about this new company called 1154 Lill Studio, which makes custom cloth handbags. We did a story on them a few months ago, and our readers loved it. So, when I got an email from Kristen and Poeme about Lill Studio having a sale at Poeme, I thought I’d tell you about it! Especially since there’s a 10% off coupon! Mother’s Day is coming up!

A Shady Decision

Forever21
Forever21 Sunglasses ($5.80)

There are two theories when it comes to sunglasses:

1) Buy expensive ones so you are more careful to not break or lose them

2) Buy cheap ones because they will inevitably get broken or lost

I started out subscribing to theory #2 because, frankly, I didn’t have the financial ability to do otherwise. After college, I gave #1 a try and I admit it worked. Unfortunately, I moved six times in six years and my first splurgy shades got lost somewhere in the mix. I was so mad at myself for losing them, I went back to the #2 theory.

But last week, I broke my cheapo pair of sunglasses. And I lost the few cheapos I had before it, so I’m back to square one… or two… can’t decide which theory. But I know I need some shades asap because that thing called “sun” we haven’t seen for ages is actually coming out a little more often and my baby blues need some protection.

killture
Killture High-End Sunglasses ($216.58)

So, I’ve been doing some research. On the cheap side, Forever21 wins without a doubt. Most pairs go for $5.80 and are super stylish. They probably wont last long, but if you’re going to lose or break them any way, who cares.

While researching the expensive side, I did find a fun line called Killture. I don’t think I could ever pull off something like this. Very few people could, but Lady Gaga is one of them.

If you have a taste for swanky shades, but have an aversion to wearing studs near your eyeballs, there’s a designer eyewear  trunk show in West Chester coming up soon you might want to check out. Here are the deets:

Monday, March 22, 4:30 – 7:30pm

Cincinnati EyeCare Team
Union Centre Blvd Location
8629 N. Pavillion Dr.
West Chester, OH 45069

Designer Trunk Show featuring Prada, Dolce & Gabbana & Ray-Ban. Eyewear vendors will have their full selection of eyewear on hand to try on and purchase. Special discounts up to 20% off. You will also be able to register to win a free pair of sunglasses at the event.

I’ve never been to this shop before, but my cousin just opened a wine bar (The Wise Owl) right near there. So I might stop in there for a glass of liquid courage to go back to my theory #1 ways.

Ten Years of Tresses

bajonAs a business owner, I can respect when a business hits a big milestone like 10 years. So, when I got an email from Bajon Salon & Spa about their “Decade Party” on March 19 to celebrate their 10 years in business I did a little dance for them!

That’s awesome! Congrats Bajon!

So, if you’re in the West Chester on Friday March 19, stop in and have a cocktail to cheers to their success! There will be refreshments, snacks and lots of salon and spa specials!
