Did you know that there’s a local business where you can shop for things you love while giving back to your favorite charity? A Village Gift Shop at The Century House in historic downtown Glendale offers exclusive shopping events where a portion of the proceeds are donated to the organizer’s charity of choice.
Diane Agricola, the owner of A Village Gift Shop, says giving back is an initiative that’s near and dear to her heart. “All of us here at A Village Gift Shop personally have worked and raised funds for organizations that are meaningful to each of us,” she explains. “It was very easy for us to embrace using our boutique as a way to host events for other groups who also feel a calling to help charities important to them.”
A Village Gift Shop is a shop that carries everything from home decor and gift items to fashion accessories and select pieces of clothing. Featured brands include: Alex and Ani, Rookwood Pottery, Hobo and Maruca Design.
The number of charity shopping events each month varies, although Agricola says they hope to host one to two groups per month. They’re also typically held between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., but morning and afternoon events can also be accommodated.
Agricola says those who have hosted shopping events at the shop are always pleased with the experience. “During a shopping event, we provide guests with light refreshments, the chance to enter a drawing for a gift basket, and a discount for a future visit to A Village Gift Shop,” says Agricola. “A portion of all sales goes directly to the group’s charity during a scheduled shopping event.”
According to Agricola, the shop has worked with several charities to host events, including Autistic Endeaves, which helps children with Autism in a safe learning environment; Karama Connection, a nonprofit organization with an orphanage in Tanzania; William Breidenstein Fund, a local Glendale child with ongoing medical needs; and Shop for a Viking, the Princeton School District’s PTO fundraising group.
Wouldn’t it be great to shop fab finds AND raise funds for a charity you love? You can at A Village Gift Shop (my faaaaavorite gift shop in Glendale)! I just saw them promoting this on their Facebook page, so I thought I’d help to get the word out because I know a lot of people involved in different charities and this is a fun/unique way to fundraise. You just set up a date where you and friends can come in for a little retail therapy, then a portion of proceeds from that day goes to the charity of your choice! Give them a call at (513) 771-3927!
We hosted a decorating party at A Village Gift Shop in Glendale a couple weeks ago for our upcoming Bras with Flair on the Square event (coming up on Oct. 2!!) and while I was there I found what might possibly be the BEST smelling candles ever! They’re called Ella B Candles. They’re hand-poured in Charlotte, NC and pure soy (so you don’t have to worry about the chemicals or not burning clean). Company is 4 years old, owned by a husband and wife team.
The ladies at the shop told me that they have a great holiday line every year, and they even do customized candles. A Village Gift Shop stocks Wyoming, Glendale, OTR, Cincinnati, West Chester and Mason neighborhood candles — what an awesome gift idea! Makes a wonderful gift for someone new to the area or moving from the area, or a hostess gift, or holiday gift. And they smell UH-MAZE-ING! Definitely check them out!
In preparation for our Bras with Flair on the Square event Oct. 2, we had a bra decorating party last week so Cincy Chic’ers could make their bras together with some wine, yummy food and new friends! It ended up being SO fun! Click here for pics of the event and a big thanks to A Village Gift Shop for being such great hosts!
Make sure you mark your calendar for Oct. 2 and click here to RSVP to see these creations, among hundreds of others, fly high on Fountain Square — along with shopping, refreshments, and a fashion show — all to support Susan G Komen for the Cure!

I recently did a write-up on Cincy Chic about how much I loooooove the clothes and accessories at A Village Gift Shop (click here to read it) and I wanted to personally invite you to our next event there! It’s our “Wrapped Up In Fashion” Fall Trends Preview Party Aug. 15, 6-9pm.

Snoozies, which are a cross between a warm sock and cozy slipper! They come in all different colors, fabrics (even sequins!) and sizes (even ones for babies!). They’re suuuuper cute, and perfect for these cold, polar vortex days!
Talk about something perfect for a cold winter’s day… think of baked brie oozing over fruits, meats and breads. YUM! A Village Gift Shop has some great Gourmet du Village dips and brie bakers that the owner Diane says are some of their top sellers at the store!
Alex and Ani bracelets – this designer creates bangle bracelets, necklaces, earrings and rings that adorn the body, enlighten the mind, and empower the spirit. A Village Gift Shop recently started carrying these and Diane says they’re flying off the shelves! I love the stackable bracelets!
You can check out all these fab finds and more at the Jan. 30 “Jewelry Makes me Happy” event coming up at the Village Gift Shop at the Century House in Glendale. It all supports a good cause, too. Click here to register and learn more!
Thinking of fixing up your home’s curb appeal as we start to head into the cooler months of fall? Well, my favorite designer Diane Agricola, owner of Agricola Redesign and A Village Gift Shop at the Century House, offered these helpful tips to get your exterior in tip-top shape!
Now that the hot summer months are behind us your curb appeal will take on a whole new look to potential buyers.
Having your home on the market in autumn can be a great thing. For one thing, there’s less competition. It also puts you in the unique position to market your home as the perfect place to bunker down when it’s cold outside. Even though fall buyers may be concentrating on the inside of your home, it’s not the time to neglect the outside of your home.
Here is a check list to review to make sure your homes curb appeal is still holding ground for your fall buyers:
Fill in any bald spots or areas in your grass where it’s thinning
Add mums or other fall plants to add color and interest to your landscape.
Trim your shrubs and trees.
Clear out all the summer clutter by storing or removing all summer lawn furniture
Check your driveway. Does it need power washed or cracks filled in or resurfaced?
Clean all gutters and downspouts and repair any leaks.
Clean all windows and screens or even store the screens so the windows show better.
Make sure all outdoor lighting is in working order and is highlighting the best features of your home.
Take a good look at your front door. Does it need a fresh coat of paint? Hang a nice wreath with rich fall colors to invite your potential buyers in.
Make sure your door bell is in working order and your house numbers are appealing and can be easily seen from passing traffic
Check the street in front of your house for trash and unappealing litter
Last but not least…take a good look at your mailbox. This is a relatively inexpensive item to update and makes a huge difference to potential buyers.
I’m working with Cincy Style Bar, A Village Gift Shop at the Century House, and several local fashion bloggers for this “Champagne and Shopping” event on Jan. 31. I can’t wait! The fashion show will feature all the great accessories carried at the Village Gift Shop, and will be styled by the local bloggers who will offer fashion tips, tricks and trends. Attendees will enjoy complimentary swag bag, champagne, light bites, and discounted shopping. Plus, make a Valentine’s Day wish list, and get a coupon for your gift-giver to use! So fun! Click here to learn more and RSVP!
I don’t know about you, but with the New Year around the corner, it has me thinking about switching some things up to start 2013 with a fresh face. I’ve been thinking about giving a few rooms in our house a new look, and this event looks perfect to do just that!
On December 9 from 2-4pm, A Village Gift Shop at the Century House will be hosting a tour of a historic home in Glendale, which was just completely redesigned by Agricola Redesign. You’ll get to see all that they’ve done to the house and learn the ins and outs of redesigning. There will be a class featuring season table-scapes, new and exciting holiday color schemes and how to create a focal point in each room.
Refreshments and champagne will be served during the class!
Space is limited the cost of the class is $30. Bring a friend and get a discount of $5 per ticket! Call A Village Gift Shop at the Century House to register at 513-771-3927. You’ll also have the chance to enter a drawing for a gift certificate to the Rail House and A Village Gift Shop at the Century House.
Thanks to my intern Sara Elliott for helping put this blog post together!
