Boy Scout Fundraiser Dec. 3!

Every year, Miss Em’s hosts a fun shopping event that benefits the Boy Scouts of America (BSA)! This year’s event is coming up Saturday Dec. 3, 11am-3pm at 5767 Wolfpen-Pleasant Hill Rd. This is the Milford Trinity United Methodist Church and chartered home of Troop 468. Proceeds from this annual fundraiser will help offset cost of monthly campouts, events, and other misc. expenses such as equipment, propane, troop trailer and cooking supplies. The Scouts and their families appreciate this support and hope to see you on Dec. 3! Click here for more event details!

I chatted with the Troop Leader of Troop 468 (based at Trinity United Methodist Church in Milford OH) to learn more about BSA and how much each troop helps their local communities. Here’s what the Troop Leader had to say about his group: The Boy led Troop is over 50 years old and current has 52 boys on charter with the Boy Scouts of America. The scouts range in ages 10 through 18, as they progress through the ranks in hope of reaching Eagle Scout, the highest scouting rank. We are a service driven troop that participates in many events to help local organizations and its people. Some of which include the following:

  • Milford Miami Ministries – Food Collection and 5K fundraiser support
  • Tender Mercies
  • Senior Saturday (Miami Township) breakfast event
  • Built 22 tables for kids affected by Downs Syndrome
  • Honor Flight
  • Provided 75 summer lunches for Milford Students
  • New Life Furniture drive participation
  • Giving Tree for Holidays
  • Flag Retirements
  • Miami Township Fire Tower
  • Finley Ray Park clean up
  • Trinity United Methodist Clean up Fall and Spring

Check out the event flyer below for more details (or click here), along with pics of fun we’ve had in the past supporting the Boy Scouts! Miss Em’s will have amazing pieces for everyone to choose from — ALL jewelry will be $20 or less! And don’t forget about all the awesome baby and kids items Miss Em’s now carries!

Miss Em’s Baby Items You’ll Go Ga-Ga For!

I went to Miss Em’s Holiday Open House last weekend, and saw SO many cute things! With me being 9 months preggo, I especially loved that she added baby items to her site this year! I got a few things, like a really cute little handprint and footprint set that I can create with our new little one and hang in her new room once she arrives! Yay! Baby’s first craft project is already planned! haha!

I also bought a really cute “Tickle Monster” book (comes with a furry “monster” glove with holes for fingers to do some good tickling!) for my older daughter, which she’s going to just LOVE.

I saw a bunch of other cute things I now wish I had just bought, because I now either want them for one of my girls or I’ve thought of who they’d make the perfect gift for! So, I’m about to go check out her new  “Baby” page on her site to order more!

To check out the pics below I snapped at her last event to see some of my favorite items I found!  If you’re looking for holiday gifts, need a gift for a baby shower coming up, or just want some fun new items for your little one, make sure you check out her website for more items, or stop by the Lawrenceburg Holiday Market November 20th – 22nd to get some wonderful gifts!img_7622img_7623img_7624img_7625img_7626img_7627

Recap: 2016 Miss Em’s Holiday Bazaar!

Cate Alston with Cupcakes 4 Cancer

For the past few weeks, I’ve been telling you about the Miss Em’s Holiday Bazaar. It was this past Saturday and Sunday…  WOW! What a great weekend! Both days of the event were packed with lots of shoppers getting ready for the holidays (despite it being 70-75 degrees out! haha!) Below are some pics of some of my favorite things I found — and maaaaaaybe might have bought for myself or as gifts!

Not only was the event a huge success for Miss Em’s and all the vendors involved, but the event raised $408 for Cupcakes 4 Cancer – a business created by Cate Alston who bakes cupcakes with her mom. They sell cupcakes to raise money to make backpacks filled with fun items for kids who are in the hospital with cancer. A few local news stations came to the event to cover this partnership with them this year, which was exciting! Click here to read one of the station’s stories about it!

What a successful event!

If you missed this event, or if you attended and want to catch them again before the holidays, Miss Em’s will be at these upcoming events:

Friday, Saturday or Sunday this upcoming weekend at the Cincinnati Holiday Market

Saturday, December 3rd from 11am – 3pm in Milford, Ohio for a fundraiser for the Boy Scout Troop 468. Attached is flyer.

Seven Savvy Look for Less Pieces from Miss Em’s

I told you last week about how I hosted a Virtual Party with Miss Em’s and now that all of my items have arrived, I’m soooo happy! Not only because I love all the pieces I bought (and it helped donate funds to my friend’s cause) but I also saved a TON off of the designer look-alikes.

I wanted to be prepared with an example of how much I was saving when my Miss Em’s package arrived, so the hubs wouldn’t give me a hard time and I was SHOCKED to see how much I actually was saving! Just to give you an idea of how affordable (yet on-trend) her items are,  below are seven side-by-side comparisons of my favorite pieces and then the designer pieces that look super similar but are MUCH more expensive. Hey, even the husband was impressed, so I know I did well! haha!

Preview of Miss Em’s Holiday Bazaar Nov. 5-6!

I know the big Miss Em’s Holiday Bazaar is coming up on Nov. 5-6 but I had to do some pre-shopping to show you the kinds of things she’d have at the event (hey, it counts as “work” because I’m writing about it now right?) 🙂

Miss Em’s is seriously my favorite place to go for all my inexpensive accessories/costume jewelry, plus she just started selling cute baby items which have been SO perfect for gift giving!

There will be a TON more than just jewelry… there will also be Ohio State decor, jewelry, scarves, purses, children’s gifts, holiday decor and more.  They always have an awesome raffle for all the attendees to enter, too!

The pics in the first collage below are of some of the items I recently got at Miss Em’s (click here to see bigger pics) and how I’ve styled them. The second collage is of items Emily with Miss Em’s assured me she’ll definitely have at the event (she only carries a few of each, so some of the styles I got are already gone!) to give you an idea of what she’ll have there…. not to mention all the other awesome vendors she’ll have! Additional vendors include:

  • Pampered Chef
  • LuLaRoe
  • Scenty
  • Thirty One Gifts
  • Rodan + Fields
  • WildTree
  • Cupcakes 4 Cancer

Cupcakes 4 Cancer is created by a 10 year old girl, Cate Alston, who’s mission is to help kids going through chemo to feel brave, strong, and beautiful. Her goals is to provide 25 kids with fun and entertaining activities. The items that she includes in the backpacks are:

  • 1 Zen Tangle Coloring Book
  • 24 Crayola Colored Pencils
  • Gel Pens
  • Journal
  • EOS lip balm
  • EOS hand lotion
  • Awesome Craft kit
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Fuzzy Socks

The first 150 people to attend the event will get bags filled with great coupons from different companies around Cincinnati. There will be a special coupon in them from Miss Em’s as well.

Five (Well, Technically 15) Fab Look for Less Ideas!

Last night, I hosted a virtual party with Miss Em’s  and it was AWESOME! I decided to make it a fundraiser for my friend Lindsay who’s trying to generate enough funds to do IVF and start a family (Miss Em’s will donate 15% of your sales to a charity!). So, a ton of my friends and Lindsay’s friends joined in to shop for a cause! It was really fun AND easy! 🙂

In a few days, I’ll do a follow up blog with a video that I took last night, to show you how the party worked and also recap how much we raised for Lindsay! But seeing so many of my friends buy different items at the party last night, and knowing their personal style/how they would style them, inspired me to put together this post!

My friend Lindsay is very sporty… a jeans and t-shirt kind of gal. My friend Candy is very classic and corporate… a suit or LBD everyday kind of gal. And then my friend Jessica is in between as a teacher… a business casual kind of gal. So I picked out five Miss Em’s pieces and styled them how each of my three friends would wear them to give you an idea of the versatility!

  1. The Gold Bar Cluster Necklace and Earring Set ($20) — I added the Natural Fabric & Leatherette Bracelet ($14) for the “teacher” look

2. Neon Multi-Color Necklace & Earring Set ($20)

3. Coral Seed Bead Necklace & Earring Set ($22) — I added the Natural Fabric & Leatherette Bracelet ($14) for the “teacher” look

4. Long Matte Necklace & Earring Set ($18) — I added the “Be Brave” Cuff Bracelet ($13) to the “teacher” look

5. Silver Flower Necklace & Earring Set ($22)

Check out MissEms.com to see these and LOTS more “look for less” pieces. Click here to contact them to set up a virtual party to earn credits to shop on her site for free (or give 15% of your sales to a charity like I did). Or, if you prefer to shop in person, Miss Em’s is having a Holiday Bazaar event Nov. 5-6 at the Anderson Senior Center.

Miss Em’s Virtual Parties

Now that I’m 8 months pregnant with a busy-body 2-year-old at home (oh, and that running a business full-time thing! haha!), I’ve been getting more and more creative with how I shop.

Over the past few months, I’ve signed up for a grocery delivery service, a healthy meal delivery service, a dry cleaning delivery service, and Amazon Prime for two-day-delivery of just about any other random thing I might need delivered to the house. All of these things made a HUGE difference in freeing up my time but still getting me what I need to keep things ticking here at Casa Scalia.

My wardrobe is no exception, either. But since my body is in such a state of flux right now, I’ve been keeping my clothing very basic and jazzing things up with accessories. One of my FAVORITE businesses to buy accessories from is Miss Em’s. She does a ton of events in Cincinnati and Columbus and she has a great website. I’ve been buying a ton of things online from her lately to keep my wardrobe fresh with her on-trend but SUPER affordable accessories. She’s actually known for her “look for less” selections. Oh, and she just started selling baby items too, so I now have even more reason to be on her site.

Speaking of, since I’ve been buying a lot from her lately, I saw the “host a party” button on her site, and all the benefits a hostess gets (aka FREE jewelry!) so I considered that. But again, I’m 8 months preggo with a crazy two year old at home… having people over gives me a headache just thinking about it! haha!

I happened to mention this to the owner Emily when we were chatting online, and she said that she has a brand new option for people like me who prefer to do their buying – and partying – all online. So, they’re similar to LuLaRoe online parties, but instead of leggings, you’re getting jewelry!

Emily works with her customers to host online Facebook parties, or “Virtual Parties” as she calls them. The customer picks the date/time of the Facebook party and Miss Em creates a group page that has all of the details about the sale. Once the group is created, the host (customer) invites all of her friends to attend that might be interested in buying at the virtual party. Miss Em will post photos leading up to the event…  like photos of the types of products, fun pictures of customers wearing Miss Em’s pieces, funny memes, etc.

The evening of your party, at the time designated, Miss Em’s will host albums of necklaces, earrings, scarves, bracelets, baby items, etc.  Your customers can then shop from those albums. There’s typically only one of each piece, so if you see something you like, you have to comment “SOLD” right away to get it! Customers that purchase (mark “SOLD”) on the items will be asked to fill out a google sheet with their information. Miss Em then contacts them for payment information. Once paid, the items are shipped out to the customers!

The host receives  15% of the total sales in free jewelry for themselves!  Anything else they want to purchase ,they can get 25% off of. It’s easy, fun and there is no cleaning involved! You can also do this to raise funds for a charity!

I loved the idea because it sounded like fun, was casual, very little work on my part, and no-pressure for my friends to buy. So, I picked a date (it’s next Sunday) to have one of these virtual parties and see how they work for myself! I’m SO excited!

I decided that I’d post to the party page some pics of things I just bought from Miss Em and how I styled them to give my friends ideas of what they could get and ideas for how to wear them. Below are a few pics I took and will be posting to the page!

I can’t wait to see how it goes! I’ll keep you updated!

To set one up for yourself, contact Emily at emily@missems.com or (513) 313-7324.
