Miss Em’s Virtual Parties

Now that I’m 8 months pregnant with a busy-body 2-year-old at home (oh, and that running a business full-time thing! haha!), I’ve been getting more and more creative with how I shop.

Over the past few months, I’ve signed up for a grocery delivery service, a healthy meal delivery service, a dry cleaning delivery service, and Amazon Prime for two-day-delivery of just about any other random thing I might need delivered to the house. All of these things made a HUGE difference in freeing up my time but still getting me what I need to keep things ticking here at Casa Scalia.

My wardrobe is no exception, either. But since my body is in such a state of flux right now, I’ve been keeping my clothing very basic and jazzing things up with accessories. One of my FAVORITE businesses to buy accessories from is Miss Em’s. She does a ton of events in Cincinnati and Columbus and she has a great website. I’ve been buying a ton of things online from her lately to keep my wardrobe fresh with her on-trend but SUPER affordable accessories. She’s actually known for her “look for less” selections. Oh, and she just started selling baby items too, so I now have even more reason to be on her site.

Speaking of, since I’ve been buying a lot from her lately, I saw the “host a party” button on her site, and all the benefits a hostess gets (aka FREE jewelry!) so I considered that. But again, I’m 8 months preggo with a crazy two year old at home… having people over gives me a headache just thinking about it! haha!

I happened to mention this to the owner Emily when we were chatting online, and she said that she has a brand new option for people like me who prefer to do their buying – and partying – all online. So, they’re similar to LuLaRoe online parties, but instead of leggings, you’re getting jewelry!

Emily works with her customers to host online Facebook parties, or “Virtual Parties” as she calls them. The customer picks the date/time of the Facebook party and Miss Em creates a group page that has all of the details about the sale. Once the group is created, the host (customer) invites all of her friends to attend that might be interested in buying at the virtual party. Miss Em will post photos leading up to the event…  like photos of the types of products, fun pictures of customers wearing Miss Em’s pieces, funny memes, etc.

The evening of your party, at the time designated, Miss Em’s will host albums of necklaces, earrings, scarves, bracelets, baby items, etc.  Your customers can then shop from those albums. There’s typically only one of each piece, so if you see something you like, you have to comment “SOLD” right away to get it! Customers that purchase (mark “SOLD”) on the items will be asked to fill out a google sheet with their information. Miss Em then contacts them for payment information. Once paid, the items are shipped out to the customers!

The host receives  15% of the total sales in free jewelry for themselves!  Anything else they want to purchase ,they can get 25% off of. It’s easy, fun and there is no cleaning involved! You can also do this to raise funds for a charity!

I loved the idea because it sounded like fun, was casual, very little work on my part, and no-pressure for my friends to buy. So, I picked a date (it’s next Sunday) to have one of these virtual parties and see how they work for myself! I’m SO excited!

I decided that I’d post to the party page some pics of things I just bought from Miss Em and how I styled them to give my friends ideas of what they could get and ideas for how to wear them. Below are a few pics I took and will be posting to the page!

I can’t wait to see how it goes! I’ll keep you updated!

Fundraising with Miss Em’s!

With Thanksgiving coming up, here’s a great way for you to fundraise for your organization and show thanks to your supporters by providing a fun and fashionable event. My friend Emily at Miss Em’s actually does a ton of fundraising events, and here are just a few of the local organizations that generate lots of much-needed revenue by having jewelry sales through her:

  • Pelotonia
  • Milford Boy Scout Troop 468
  • Milford Jr. High Volleyball
  • Chillicothe High School Cheerleading Team
  • Pathway to Peace
  • Phi Sigma Sigma Sorority
  • Junior Civic League of Chillicothe and (upcoming) Columbus
  • American Cancer Society
  • SO MANY MORE!

It’s a really easy and lucrative way to raise funds for your organization! When groups host fundraisers with me, they get 15% of the total sales in a check to their organization. All they have to provide is the space and marketing for the event to get their supporters, friends, family, etc to attend. Emily says they’ve raised anywhere from $100 – $500 in a matter of hours for their fundraisers! The jewelry sells itself and everyone gets to take home their items, so no wait!

Emily has a few fundraisers coming up that you might want to attend:
Fundraiser for Pathway to Peace in Columbus. This is an organization that was created because two women, Patricia and Jessica Lutz who were tragically hit and killed by a vehicle driving off the side of the road. At the scene of the accident the family found papers in the bushes. The papers were a copy of the “Novena to the Virgin Mary, Untier of Knots.” Patricia and Jessica were praying during that fateful walk. Since their death their family put together Pathway to Peace to raise awareness and support for mental health treatment. The event is Sunday, November 22nd at the Dublin Panera in Columbus, Ohio. To learn more about this event, click here.

She’s also selling the following three items where 40% of each sale will go directly towards your organization.

Another fundraiser that Miss Em’s will be having is one for Boy Scout Troop 468 in Milford, Ohio on Saturday, December 5th. This event will help raise funds for their troop, while also allowing the boys the opportunity to learn about marketing / sales for a business. For additional information, click here.

We also have additional fundraisers coming up for sororities. If interested in learning more about hosting a fundraiser or attending, please reach out to Emily@missEms.com.

Miss Em’s Open House Event Recap!

My friend Emily, who owns Miss Em's. How cute is she??
My friend Emily, who owns Miss Em’s, at her Open House event. How cute is she??

About a month ago I told you about a fun Open House event my friend Emily, who own’s Miss Em’s, was hosting in Anderson (and then did some fun sneak peeks, styling suggestions, and trend reports of new items she carries).

Well, the Open House event ended up being a HUGE success (Emily said lots of Cincy Chic readers were there, too, so thanks for attending if you did! 🙂

The event was held at the Anderson Senior Center, and they had more than 135 women there, who all received a swag bag filled with coupons from local vendors, including Alba Beauty Studio, Cincy Spray Tan, Damsel in Defense, Clever Containers, Jamberry, Thirty One, Miss Em’s (of course) and more! Those who mentioned they came from Cincy Chic received a free pair of earrings. Woohoo! 🙂

People came from Indiana, Kentucky, and all over Ohio just to shop at the event! In fact, Emily said some of her “loyal ladies” (what she calls her repeat shoppers) even brought outfits that they needed help accessorizing.

If you missed  the event, no worries! (Or if you’re an officially addicted Loyal Lady! haha!) Emily has more coming up! In both Cincinnati and Columbus, Emily has additional Open House events. Here are the details for each:

Cincinnati: Miss Em’s will have a booth at the Cincinnati Holiday Market this weekend from Friday – Sunday.

Cincinnati: Dec. 5, Boy Scout Troop Fundraiser in Milford.

Columbus: Nov. 22, hosting a fundraiser for Pathway To Peace. The mission of Pathway to Peace is to keep the generous spirit of Patricia and Jessica alive by raising awareness and support for mental health treatment. Emily’s mom was good friends with Patricia Lutz, who was killed last year, along with her daughter when they were struck by a vehicle who went off the road, while they were walking. 20% of the total sales on November 22nd in Columbus will go to them. Click here for more information.

If you’re interested in joining Miss Em’s email/mailing list for more information about these events in the future, just email Emily at Emily@MissEms.com. Here are a few pics of the Open House event so you can see all the fab finds (all under $20!) Miss Em’s has to offer!

Metals: A New Fashion Trend!

Harpers Bazaar named mixed metals as one of the biggest trends to emerge from 2015, and boy were they right! My friend Emily who owns Miss Em’s (an awesome Ohio-based accessories business) says she’s been seeing a big trend in different types of metal necklaces. In fact, she says lot of the pieces they’ve been seeing are the Patina necklaces, as well as the mixed metals. Below are some pieces she now carries that are trending with the metal looks for fall/winter! (and see below those for Cincy Chic’s event this Saturday where you can shop all these looks and more!)457939466811477451497232514862514889514924CFB06636-3T-TQS-2X112-212D-CUFF-281073-300-01DN7001-MT-16_3L-134X212-112L-238063-425-02ME7276-PAT-114W-112L-284257-150-01PDN5065-SV-AT-16_3L-1X1-242786-375-0.15SB05904-TT-14H-Str-248483-225-0.15SB05906-AS-14H-Str-248486-225-0.15SB05906-PT-14H-Str-282940-225-01

All the signs of fall are here! The cooler temps, changing colors, pumpkin spice everything, and fall fashion galore! And my friend Emily who runs Miss Em’s (click here to read the story we did on her in Cincy Chic a couple years ago) has PLENTY of stylish scarves to get you and your wardrobe ready for the cooler temps this year. Miss Em’s: Look for Less

As I mentioned last week, my friend Emily owns Miss Em’s, an awesome accessories shop that specializes in trendy yet affordable pieces. She does home parties, craft shows, etc. (like Stella and Dot, but at a fraction of the price) and you can also go online to buy her items. But once a year she hosts an annual Holiday Shopping-themed Open House every year where you can shop in person! This year’s event is on Nov. 1 at the Anderson Senior Center (7970 Beechmont Ave, Cincinnati, Ohio 45255). Click here to get all the event details!

Whenever I wear any of my Miss Em’s pieces, people are always asking me where I got it, or if it’s such-and-such designer… and they’re always surprised when I tell them where I actually got it and for how much. So, just to give you an example of what I’m talking about, I pulled a few things I liked from Miss Em’s site, and then found identical designer look-alikes for hundreds more. Check them out! Then, after you do and you get hooked on Miss Em’s too, I’ll see you on Nov. 1! 🙂

My friend Emily Smith (previously Emily Madden – she just got hitched!) started a company in 2008 that’s all about affordable fashion. Her business is called “Miss Em’s” — click here to read the story we did on her in Cincy Chic a couple years ago — and it should definitely be on your radar if you love trendy accessories but don’t want to spend a fortune on them.

Don't miss the Miss Em's Holiday Open House on Nov. 1 at the Anderson Senior Center!

From understated bracelets to statement necklaces, cute clutches to boho bags, stud earrings to dangling chandeliers, and posh pashminas to cozy scarves, Miss Em’s has it.  It’s an online boutique and Emily hand-selects everything herself, so that’s how she keeps the costs as low as possible.

The first 150 people in attendance receive a swag bag filled with coupons from other vendors and local businesses, such as Mary Kay, Pampered Chef, Thirty One, Jamberry Nails, Décor by Laurie.

All of the jewelry will be $20 or lower. Purses will range from $20 – $50, Scarves will range from $12 – $15, Headbands will range from $12 – $15. Follow Miss Em’s on Facebook to see more pictures of items that will be at the event, and get updates on other events, etc.

I’ll be there snagging some great gifts for all the fashionistas on my list (and of course a ton of stuff for myself, I’m sure! haha!) Hope to see you there!
