Now THAT, my friends, is a HAT! And not just any hat… a Christine Moore hat.
They’re bold, they’re bright and they’re coming to Cincinnati next weekend. Soho Boutique in Hyde Park is hosting a trunk show April 6 and 7, and it’s your chance to snag one of these haute couture hats. See below for more information about the event that I copy/pasted from Soho’s event listing on Facebook!
Christine Moore Trunk Show Soho Boutique in Hyde Park, 2757 Observatory Ave. If you’re look for a hat for Derby, Oaks, a Tea or a Fundraiser this Spring, then this is the event for you!!!
Christine A. Moore hats appear to be everywhere these days!! The New York City-based milliner’s hats were worn by Jennifer Lopez in a photo spread in September’s Vanity Fair. Katy Perry and Lady Gaga have also worn Moore’s creations in recent issues of fashion magazines. Elegance, unique design and comfort are what Christine A. Moore Millinery is about. She is known for her finishing work and attention to detail. All embellishments are handmade and unique to her design. Each hat is individually made with great care.
We will be having the trunk show during regular store hours, which are Friday 11-6 and Saturday 11-5!!
While most of the men in Cincinnati are ecstatic about baseball season starting up so they can watch the Reds, us women have something else on our minds. Every spring people from all over come to place their bet at the Kentucky derby. And of course, every woman is frantically trying to find a hat that completes their outfit.
With the derby hat being the most essential fashion statement at the races, it’s no wonder women are doing their best to find their one of a kind hat. In my own experience, with going to the derby, the only place I knew of that sold derby hats was a store called Miss Martha’s in NKY but it’s since closed. The only other place that usually sells hats are the department stores, and then when I do find one I have to worry that someone else won’t be wearing the same one… which results in the whole “who wore it better?” scenario.
Well, all of our worries can come to a rest thankfully, because Soho Boutique in Hyde Park (read a great write up about the owner and boutique by Cincy Chic here!) is now carrying a fairly large collection of derby hats. It’s one of the onlyboutiques in Cincinnati I’ve come across that is carrying derby hats. Plus, with the unique appeal of each hat, which you won’t find at the department stores, you’re sure to find something unique to you – and won’t have a twin at the derby.
I’ve included a few pictures of the hats that are currently there, and I’ve also included a photo of my friends and I at the derby last year! I hope to see all you lovely ladies at the races this year placing your bets in fabulous hats!
Thanks to BreeAnna Smith, my intern, for helping put this blog post together.
You probably see a lot of friends and family during the holidays who you usually don’t see much of throughout the year. So, when you do see them, you want to look your best, right? Well, I just found out about a fun promo that Keep It Tight Fitness is doing to help us ladies get motivated before the holidays hit… and to help one lucky lady look fab for New Year’s with a $500 gift certificate to Soho Boutique. Oh, speaking of New Year’s, that just reminded me that my husband and I are taking a trip to the beach for NYE. Hmm… bikini… yeah, perfect timing for this promo! : )
Just learned about this sale at Soho Boutique in Hyde Park. Actually, it’s a Spring and Summer Sale at Soho this Saturday only (say that 10 times fast! haha!) I’m a fan of Soho on Facebook and Amy the owner is really good about posting new arrivals. I saw they just got in a TON of cute dresses and jewelry! Enjoy!
It’s no secret: I love Soho Boutique. I’ve written about them several times before. But I just want to put my personal opinion out there (it’s a blog after all) to say that I think Amy Maynard, the owner, is one of the smartest business people I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. I adore her creativity, tenacity and personality. She’s a really great person, truly, and as a bonus, she has a posh boutique with dangerously cute couture.
And it sounds like this little firecracker struck again. I just learned that she has planned a weekend full of fun, fashion and fabulousity!
On Saturday and Sunday, April 10-11, Soho’s having more of a prom-themed event. So bring your daughters to get free hair and makeup consults from local professionals and book appointments for the big day. Also get $30 off a $100 purchase. Sororities, wear your letters and get an additional $5. There will also be a Phoebe Couture trunk show going on at Soho all day on Saturday and Sunday to show off all the great pieces in that collection.
I’m going to go on Saturday in hopes that the white dress on the Phoebe site is there in my size. It would be perfect for our Night in White event!
PS: Just a heads up, Amy is helping us plan a Hyde Park shop hop for this summer, so stay tuned for that!
This weekend officially ushered in Spring! This morning I went for a run and the birds were chirping and the trees were budding.
I just love this time of year. Everything seems so vibrant and new! Same holds true for all the Spring trends on the racks right now. Lots of vibrant colors, playful prints and flirtatious silhouettes.
My friend Amy Maynard, owner of Soho Boutique in Hyde Park, goes to NYC (my fav fashion mecca) all the time and keeps her finger on the fashion-forward pulse to keep her boutique on-trend. So, I asked her to narrow down what she thinks are the biggest, best, must-have trends of Spring 2010.
Here’s what she told me:
1. Simple, Clean and Elegant. For Spring we are seeing a lot of very simple and classic designs. Pretty, clean lines with some small elegant and unique details. These pieces are versatile and timeless– something very important for the sophisticated, but smart woman today! With these pieces you don’t have to clean out your closet every season. You can add updated accessories and colors but continue to build a good solid wardrobe base. Think sheath dresses, shirt dresses, classic tailored jackets
2. Embellishments. With the simple elegant basics we are seeing touches of feathers, hardware and ruffles. We are seeing these embellishments added on hemlines, on belts and with jewelry. If you already have a good base wardrobe embellishments in the form of accessories is a great way to update your wardrobe.
3. Fun with Color. There are some colors we are seeing for Spring too! These are turquoise, cobalt, tomato and pink champagne! Be bold and do a beautiful dress with one of these colors or do a beautiful blouse and pair with a classic white pant or denim.
4. Blouses. We are seeing beautiful blouses this Spring. These are flowy, feminine and appropriate for many occasions. They can be tucked into denim or white pants. They can be belted with leggings (yes, leggings are here to stay for a while!) or paired with a simple pair of shorts or pencil skirt. The blouses are solid or printed– whatever you like best! A beautiful blouse is appropriate for almost any occasion.
“Rocker Chic” …Normally I wouldn’t think these things could coexist, but Amy, the owner of Soho Boutique in Hyde Park, changed my mind.
In November we did a holiday shopping/spring forecasting lunch ‘n’ learn where we brought in Amy, Richter & Phillips and Missy & Jack to talk about the trends. One of the trends Amy mentioned was this rocker chic.
I love to give trends a try, but I’m your average blonde haired, blue eyed American girl, so I can’t exactly pull off spikes and mohawks. Well, Amy explained how to sprinkle in a little rocker onto your chic with these “B-Low the Belt” brand belts.
They’re super skinny and studded. They come in all different colors (my favorite is the turquoise and gold, above).
They are on the pricey side ($80-$100), but every once in a while Soho will have a good sale. None that I know of coming up right now, but I do know they post sale info to their Facebook fan page and send out info via email (go to their site shopsohoboutique.com to sign up for the newsletter).
I would have never thought to pair a studded belt with this ruffled cocktail dress (left), but it gives it a completely new look. And I need this sweater/dress/belt combo (below). It’s suitable for work, but it also looks super cozy and comfy…. with a little rocker flare. Perfect!
UPDATE: As luck would have it… I just received an email from Soho boutique announcing new Sunday hours and a sale for THIS SATURDAY (March 5). See below captured image from the email for more info on sale amounts and hours. Enjoy!
I love it when I can get a taste of big-city life without leaving the comfort of my hometown. And every time I step into Soho Boutique in Hyde Park, I feel that way… from the off-the-beaten path boutique location and hand-painted stairs into the boutique, to the floor-to-ceiling gold encrusted mirror and daily changing floor displays. I absolutely love it.
Amy Maynard, the new owner of Soho, and I have become good friends since she purchased the boutique this summer. She is so friendly and down-to-earth, but the girl knows what she’s talking about when it comes to fashion. Especially fashion for the local lady (let’s be honest, not everything on the runway looks right at Skyline).
One of the best perks of her job is that she gets to write off her trips to Soho for “research and development.” (smart girl!) : ) She just got back from one of these trip to the Big Apple. That got my wheels turning on how my Cincy Chic readers can learn from experts like her. I came up with this concept where we can build off our popular lunch ‘n’ learn idea (where once a month we bring in one expert and invite our readers to enjoy lunch and learn about the topic for free), but this time bring in several experts from several industries to talk about trends in their specific niches.
So, on Nov. 20 from 12-1 at the Chamber of Commerce downtown (3rd floor of Carew Tower) we will have Amy from Soho Boutique talking about clothing trends, Rick Fehr from Richter & Phillips talking about jewelry and Rhonda from Missy & Jack talking about scarves and pashminas. From 1-2, there will be a trunk show where you can snag any of the items you just learned about! It’s free to attend and it includes a free boxed lunch. But we can only let the first 80 RSVPs in, so reserve your spot quickly! Send an e-mail to RSVP@cincychic.com or call (513) 721-2445 if you’re interested in attending! Hope to see you there! : )
Check out the video below where Amy from Soho gives you a sneak peek into a few of the biggest trends she’ll be talking about on Friday!
