This weekend officially ushered in Spring! This morning I went for a run and the birds were chirping and the trees were budding.
I just love this time of year. Everything seems so vibrant and new! Same holds true for all the Spring trends on the racks right now. Lots of vibrant colors, playful prints and flirtatious silhouettes.
My friend Amy Maynard, owner of Soho Boutique in Hyde Park, goes to NYC (my fav fashion mecca) all the time and keeps her finger on the fashion-forward pulse to keep her boutique on-trend. So, I asked her to narrow down what she thinks are the biggest, best, must-have trends of Spring 2010.
Here’s what she told me:
1. Simple, Clean and Elegant. For Spring we are seeing a lot of very simple and classic designs. Pretty, clean lines with some small elegant and unique details. These pieces are versatile and timeless– something very important for the sophisticated, but smart woman today! With these pieces you don’t have to clean out your closet every season. You can add updated accessories and colors but continue to build a good solid wardrobe base. Think sheath dresses, shirt dresses, classic tailored jackets

2. Embellishments. With the simple elegant basics we are seeing touches of feathers, hardware and ruffles. We are seeing these embellishments added on hemlines, on belts and with jewelry. If you already have a good base wardrobe embellishments in the form of accessories is a great way to update your wardrobe.
3. Fun with Color. There are some colors we are seeing for Spring too! These are turquoise, cobalt, tomato and pink champagne! Be bold and do a beautiful dress with one of these colors or do a beautiful blouse and pair with a classic white pant or denim.
4. Blouses. We are seeing beautiful blouses this Spring. These are flowy, feminine and appropriate for many occasions. They can be tucked into denim or white pants. They can be belted with leggings (yes, leggings are here to stay for a while!) or paired with a simple pair of shorts or pencil skirt. The blouses are solid or printed– whatever you like best! A beautiful blouse is appropriate for almost any occasion.
