This Valentine’s Day, my husband had to share me with another man. That’s because I got the exclusive opportunity to interview Oribe Canales, a renowned celebrity hairstylist who was in town for a hair show.
Oribe has worked with all the top creative directors, make-up artists, and fashion designers … such as Gianni Versace, a mentor who inspired Oribe’s tattoos (he has sleeves of them!). His resume is also packed with models, celebrities and icons – from Beverly Johnson, to Christy Turlington (with whom Oribe appears with in an iconic Vogue spread) to superstars like Heidi Klum and Naomi Campbell. Oh, and you can’t forget Jennifer Lopez, who Oribe has worked with since her first album cover.
So, why was he in Cincinnati on Valentine’s Day? Well, apparently he’s created a little tradition with the Managing Vice President of Mitchell’s Salon & Day Spa, Vivian Moore. For the past couple of years Oribe has been coming to Cincinnati to do a hair show with Vivian to inspire and infuse new ideas into the minds of Mitchell’s stylist staff. “I want them to understand the ideas I am thinking,” Oribe says.
He says he loves new glam, but there’s been a recent throwback to retro. So, his show was a showcase of how to blend the two. In the video below I chat with him about the show, and he shares more about these trends… and more importantly, a little tip for attaining timeless beauty.
