Covet list: Akris Punto at Saks Fifth Avenue

Make room in your closets, ladies. Fall fashion season is officially upon us! And if you discover upon raiding your wardrobe, you’re missing some key pieces to go along with your sophisticated swagger, I have just the sartorial solution. Recently, I had an opportunity to attend a luncheon at Saks Fifth Avenue downtown to view the Fall 2011 Akris Punto collection. The classically-inspired, yet incredibly modern pieces are perfect options for the ever-tricky transition from a day at work to an evening out.

The Swiss label is helmed by Albert Kriemler and is known for its clean lines and modern, luxury fabrics. The Fall 2011 collection was dominated by three specific movements-pops of Swiss red, shades of tone-on-tone grey, and jewel tones. Standouts for me were a camel-colored wool coat with a drawstring waist and a charcoal grey pant suit with subtle menswear details. I just loved how effortlessly the models wore the pieces (yes, I know they’re models and being effortless is their job, but I could tell there was nothing fussy or uncomfortable about the fits) and how the high-quality fabrics took pieces like the Modal stretch T-shirt to a whole other level of style.

Akris Punto brand representative, Edwin Gierbolini, was on hand to discuss the collection and said the label speaks to the modern woman who is social and loves to travel. “Akris Punto is for the woman who demands a lot out of her wardrobe. She’ll mix and match and is a trend wearer, not trendy,” Edwin added.

Most of the pieces are investments, but are guaranteed to stick around in rotation and be worn year after year. I definitely recommend investing in outerwear this season, as coats are a major way to make a chic statement and it’s the article of clothing people will see you wear the most this fall and winter.
