21c Museum Hotel – New Spa, Rooftop Lounge

A few weeks ago, we wrote about the 21C Museum Hotel here in Cincy Chic. It sounded like such a special addition to downtown that I had to go check it out myself. I contacted the PR gal there to let her know when I would be there, so she gave me a great tour of the space. She took me through the restaurant Mertropole which pays homage to its roots. Afterall, the 21c Museum Hotel transformed the 100-year-old former Metropole Hotel into a contemporary art museum, boutique hotel, spa and restaurant.

I got to check out the art exhibit (some of the art is permanent – most of which is from the owner’s personal art collection – and then other pieces are part of a rotating exhibit). Fun fact, it’s open 24 hours a day, so if you’re ever downtown looking for something to do (that’s free!), go in and check it out!

Then, I got to go upstairs to the spa, which I have to say was the most unique spa I’ve ever been to. What I loved most is that there are steam showers – and even a hot tub in the couples treatment room – so you can shower, refresh and relax after your treatment. That’s nice because at some spas, you have to shower in a gym-like locker room afterwards, which kind of negates the luxurious spa experience of your treatment. So, I thought that was a really nice touch that would make the experience there so much more special.

After that, she took me through a tour of what will be the new rooftop lounge. It’s set to open in Spring, and I’m so excited about it! There really aren’t too many rooftop hotspots in Cincinnati, and this one takes the cake. It’s a wrap-around rooftop, which overlooks Walnut, the Aronoff and the alley above Nicholsons. And – get this – there’s even a hot tub on top. Pretty amazing.

I highly recommend checking it out for yourself – it’s certainly an incredible experience and we’re lucky to have this new treasure in the heart of our downtown.

Guests to the spa are greeted by a site-specific installation by artist Ryan Wolfe called Field of Grass, which spreads across the stairway wall leading up to the spa,” Stephanie Greene, Public Relations Manager for the 21c Museum Hotel explains. “The work recreates the feel of a windswept, grassy expanse. Blades of grass are activated by wind data, and viewers can watch as a gust of air moves across the entire installation.”
