There’s an amazing musical coming to Cincinnati Feb 2-7 and I want to tell you a little bit about it. Because, I feel like I personally can relate to the storyline and so can many of my girlfriends. Definitely a great show for a girlfriends night out together!

So, here goes… If/Then is an original, contemporary musical about the intersection of choice and chance. It charts the turning points in the life of Elizabeth, a single woman who is starting over. She’s an urban planner who returns to New York City after living in Phoenix. The show’s storyline divides into alternative versions of what happens to Elizabeth, based not only on her choices about career and family, but on random everyday chance.

What I love about If/Then, is that it explores how we choose our lives and how our lives choose us. In the end, If/Then doesn’t necessarily attempt to answer the question of “can we have it all?” Rather, it’s about learning to love what we have.

Also, New York City (one of my favorite cities in the whole world!) is a major character in this show. It captures the city’s great energy, random connections and sense of possibility. It also shows how the characters create their own communities within the city of New York and how those communities become their families — something we can all relate to. And that’s the thing — Everyone has an “If/Then” moment in life – a moment that changes the trajectory of everything thereafter, even if you don’t realize it at the time.
