My name is Breanna, I am the founder and owner of Melanin Mamaa Boutique. We specialize in carefully selected pieces that are exquisite accessories that are, “classy for any age and for every shade” has served as our mantra for the 2 years I’ve been in business.
To give a bit of background into who I am as an individual; I have a BS in Organizational Supervision with a minor in Communications from the University of Akron, Go Zips! I was raised with a strong family base, which consisted of many cousins. Our favorite pastime was playing with the infamous Barbie dolls. Sadly, none of those Barbie dolls even remotely looked like me.
I remember the first time I saw a Bratz doll. I absolutely loved everything about her. This quickly became my “go to” girl because finally they made a doll who was pretty and flawless in my eyes. I realize that may not have meant much to some but it did for myself and many other Black girls. The Bratz dolls represented hope and created a world where being Black was both celebrated and appreciated.
This experience has taught me a vital lesson in that, it’s essential that we start a movement to collectively support our Black kings and queens in business. Even after this pandemic is over, we must continue to support black-owned businesses. My website is https://melaninmamaaboutique.com. It takes little time to tag a page, attend a pop-up, shop and buy products, follow and share their business with your network. A simple word of encouragement to a business owner goes a long way as they continue on their journey of entrepreneurship!
As a publication, we realize the importance and responsibility of having a voice and we want to lend that to those in the community who need it now more than ever. We started by reaching out to our friends with black-owned business to offer this platform for sharing what’s on their hearts and learn what steps we can take for a better tomorrow. Those will be posted throughout the day and rest of this week as we receive more. Want to be featured? Message us with a photo and your responses to Q&A: 1) What do you want heard? 2) What do you want known? 3) What do you want supported? Much love from everyone here at Team Chic.
