Flash Sale at A Village Gift Shop Thursday Dec. 15!

CHART metalworks

You all know that I love a good sale. You also know that A Village Gift Shop in Glendale is one of my favorite places to shop. Well, tomorrow is going to be a great day because there will be a huge SALE at the store I love!!!

This is awesome because it’s right before the holidays and they have a TON of great gift and entertaining items (and they wrap for free!). Everything from dips and decor to make your holiday party super chic (and yummy)… to gifts for women, men, babies and even pets.

Gourmet Du Village dip mix

I love putting together gift baskets by combining a few different small items to personalize the gifts for each person I’m giving them to…
– For my fashionista foodie friends, I’ve given a Gourmet Du Village dip mix paired with a Mud Pie dip spreader, and an Alex and Ani bangle bracelet she can add to her arm party collection
– For my friend who walks to her downtown job from her condo in OTR, a pair of their recycled finger-less gloves, paired with a blanket scarf and boot toppers (gives you a cute look of tall sweater socks and lace at the top of your boots without the bulk of big socks
– For my mom who loves to travel, a travel jewelry wrap and a CHART metalworks necklace to remind her of home.

A Village Gift Shop at the Century House is located at 3 Village Square 45246. They’re open Monday – Wednesday 10-6 Thursday and Friday 10-7 Saturday 10-7 and Sunday 12-5.

Shop for a Cause at A Village Gift Shop

A Village Gift Shop in Glendale lets you give back to your favorite charity while shopping for the things you love.
A Village Gift Shop in Glendale lets you give back to your favorite charity while shopping for the things you love.

Did you know that there’s a local business where you can shop for things you love while giving back to your favorite charity? A Village Gift Shop at The Century House in historic downtown Glendale offers exclusive shopping events where a portion of the proceeds are donated to the organizer’s charity of choice.

Diane Agricola, the owner of A Village Gift Shop, says giving back is an initiative that’s near and dear to her heart. “All of us here at A Village Gift Shop personally have worked and raised funds for organizations that are meaningful to each of us,” she explains. “It was very easy for us to embrace using our boutique as a way to host events for other groups who also feel a calling to help charities important to them.”

A Village Gift Shop is a shop that carries everything from home decor and gift items to fashion accessories and select pieces of clothing. Featured brands include: Alex and Ani, Rookwood Pottery, Hobo and Maruca Design.

The number of charity shopping events each month varies, although Agricola says they hope to host one to two groups per month. They’re also typically held between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., but morning and afternoon events can also be accommodated.

Agricola says those who have hosted shopping events at the shop are always pleased with the experience. “During a shopping event, we provide guests with light refreshments, the chance to enter a drawing for a gift basket, and a discount for a future visit to A Village Gift Shop,” says Agricola. “A portion of all sales goes directly to the group’s charity during a scheduled shopping event.”

According to Agricola, the shop has worked with several charities to host events, including Autistic Endeaves, which helps children with Autism in a safe learning environment; Karama Connection, a nonprofit organization with an orphanage in Tanzania; William Breidenstein Fund, a local Glendale child with ongoing medical needs; and Shop for a Viking, the Princeton School District’s PTO fundraising group.

Curb Appeal Tips from Diane Agricola!

image003Thinking of fixing up your home’s curb appeal as we start to head into the cooler months of fall? Well, my favorite designer Diane Agricola, owner of Agricola Redesign and A Village Gift Shop at the Century House, offered these helpful tips to get your exterior in tip-top shape!

Now that the hot summer months are behind us your curb appeal will take on a whole new look to potential buyers.

Having your home on the market in autumn can be a great thing. For one thing, there’s less competition. It also puts you in the unique position to market your home as  the perfect place to bunker down when it’s cold outside. Even though fall buyers may be concentrating on the inside of your home, it’s not the time to neglect the outside of your home.

Here is a check list to review to make sure your homes curb appeal is still holding ground for your fall buyers:

  • Fill in any bald spots or areas in your grass where it’s thinning

  • Add mums or other fall plants to add color and interest to your landscape.

  • Trim your shrubs and trees.

  • Clear out all the summer clutter by storing or removing all summer lawn furniture

  • Check your driveway. Does it need power washed or cracks filled in or resurfaced?

  • Clean all gutters and downspouts and repair any leaks.

  • Clean all windows and screens or even store the screens so the windows show better.

  • Make sure all outdoor lighting is in working order and is highlighting the best features of your home.

  • Take a good look at your front door. Does it need a fresh coat of paint? Hang a nice wreath with rich fall colors to invite your potential buyers in.

  • Make sure your door bell is in working order and your house numbers are appealing and can be easily seen from passing traffic

  • Check the street in front of your house for trash and unappealing litter

  • Last but not least…take a good look at your mailbox. This is a relatively inexpensive item to update and makes a huge difference to potential buyers.

Agricola Redesign Courses

I hope you enjoyed all that spring-like weather this weekend! It was soooo nice to feel that sun shining on my face for the first time in what feels like for-ev-er.

It got me in the mood to clean up my landscaping, prune everything back, mulch and I even got some fresh flowers to put around the house. That was one of the things I mentioned in this blog last month with my friend (and local interior design expert) Diane Agricola’s tips on how to welcome spring into your home’s decor.

I swear, between all the time I spend watching HGTV, on Pinterest looking at cool home decor ideas, and getting tips from Diane, I should just become a interior designer! (as if I needed any more jobs and hobbies! haha!)

But seriously, if you’re considering being an interior designer, Diane actually does offer courses to certify you and teach you everything you need to know about the trade! Below are all the details about the courses that I copy/pasted from their website, in case you’re interested in attending. More info here.

The Agricola Redesign Training Specialists (ARTS) programs are designed to promote and enhance the interior redesign and home staging industry through quality training for our students.

We currently offer a 3-Day Training Course, a 5-Day Training Course and a Color Confidence Class, held in our 1600 sq ft redesign firm in Glendale and taught by ARTS programs certified instructor and mentor, Diane Agricola.

Spring has officially sprung at Chez Scalia!!

Spring into New Home Decor Ideas!

Super cute paper table runner and placemats at A Village Gift Shop!

I don’t know about you, but I’m officially done with all this snow and I’m SO ready for Spring! One of the ways I get ready is to do a little spring cleaning, and then add in a few new pieces to officially welcome in the warmer weather. (Click here to see all the spring decor ideas I’ve been pinning on Pinterest!)

Cincy Chic just had an event at A Village Gift Shop in Glendale, which is also home to Agricola Redesign. At the event, the owner, Diane Agricola, gave me some great tips and tricks, too. She said spring colors is always her go-to way to add spring to her step at home (she actually just wrote this article about how to incorporate the Pantone color of the year, emerald green).

Her shop also has some unique table runners, which are great for switching up the look of a room without a lot of fuss. I especially loved the cutting boards and bottle toppers that are slate that you can write on with chalk — how great would that be at a dinner party? Also great for a party are the paper runner and place mats that they had at our recent event (pictured above!) that gives you the look of a runner and place mats, without the worry of washing them!

And of course, April showers bring May flowers, so floral arrangements are a natural (literally) way to bring spring into your home! That can be through actual flowers or all the fun floral prints coming out on fabrics and accessories now. I pinned a ton of great floral arrangement and door wreath ideas here.

I told Diane I would be doing this blog, and she was so excited (love her!). She even said she’d like to offer a $50 discount on an in-home design consultation if you mention this blog. And don’t worry… she’s not one of those overpriced designers. One of the things that’s great about her is that she likes to use items that you already have in your home, but repurpose them or “re-think” them that you wouldn’t have otherwise. It just sometimes helps to get a fresh perspective to help give you new ideas! I definitely recommend giving her a call! Here’s her #: 513.771.3927

Decorating Class this Sunday from 2-4pm!

I don’t know about you, but with the New Year around the corner, it has me thinking about switching some things up to start 2013 with a fresh face. I’ve been thinking about giving a few rooms in our house a new look, and this event looks perfect to do just that!

On December 9 from 2-4pm, A Village Gift Shop at the Century House will be hosting a tour of a historic home in Glendale, which was just completely redesigned by Agricola Redesign. You’ll get to see all that they’ve done to the house and learn the ins and outs of redesigning. There will be a class featuring season table-scapes, new and exciting holiday color schemes and how to create a focal point in each room.

Refreshments and champagne will be served during the class!

Space is limited the cost of the class is $30. Bring a friend and get a discount of $5 per ticket! Call A Village Gift Shop at the Century House to register at 513-771-3927. You’ll also have the chance to enter a drawing for a gift certificate to the Rail House and A Village Gift Shop at the Century House.

Thanks to my intern Sara Elliott for helping put this blog post together!
