Inspired by Anne

Did you miss “Inspired by Anne,” one of Landor Associates’ most popular exhibits on display during Cincinnati Fashion Week last year? You’re in good company. I sadly did, too. But have no fear, my friends, we have a second chance to view this exhibit honoring the iconic work of Anne Wainscott. The exhibit, featuring Anne’s prolific fashion expressionist work, will be on display July 16–September 4, 2011 at the South Gallery in the Cincinnati Museum Center’s Cincinnati History Museum.

The Cincinnati History Museum will also feature Landor employees’ fashion designs inspired by Anne, a recreation of Anne Wainscott’s studio, and actual newspaper ads that she created. Anne Wainscott, 93, was a fashion illustrator for Shillito’s Department Store and the Cincinnati Enquirer for nearly five decades. Thousands of Anne’s drawings and paintings also appeared in the Times-Star, Post, and several other trade journals.

In her time, a fashion illustrator acted as the primary creative director for each piece of clothing—signaling nuances of luxurious furs to the fine detailing of an elaborately beaded gown. Before the 1970s, when photography became a more widely-accepted medium, and during the height of Anne’s career, the responsibility of a fashion illustrator was integral to the publishing and advertising worlds.

As the person who runs Cincy Chic, a fashion focused online-only publication (the newest medium for publishing), I feel very compelled to see this exhibit. To not only honor Anne – a living legend – but to also see how far publishing has come in her lifetime. I’m SO excited to see this!

Admission to the exhibit is free for members, and is included in the Cincinnati History Museum pass and the all museum pass. For complete information on tickets and prices, visit Cincinnati Museum Center’s Web site, cincymuseum.org.

Check out the webcast below as my Cincy Chic Show producer, Ilene Ross, interviews Mary Zalla, President at Landor Associates, about the exhibit.
