Sneak Peek: Miss Em’s Holiday Open House Nov. 5

Man, oh man! My favorite online accessory/gift item site, missems.com, is having their annual Holiday Open House Sunday Nov. 5 11am-5pm at the Anderson Senior Center in Anderson Township!

Not only is this an awesome opportunity to see all the HUNDREDS of pieces you can typically only find online — including bracelets, necklaces, earrings, purses, scarves, baby clothes, children’s gifts, holiday decor, and more — but there will also be other fabulous vendors there, too! She has LuLaRoe, Mary Kay, Usborne Books, Scentsy, Lipsense, and Thirty One currently scheduled to be there, and there could be more!

All of the jewelry is $25 or less, so it’s all VERY affordable. But get there early for the best selection. Most of the pieces she carries, she only has one of, so if you get there early, you’ll get the pick of the litter! 🙂

It’s for a good cause too! Bring a new, unused children’s toy worth $10 or more to donate to Children’s Hospital and receive 10% off your entire order from Miss Em’s. This is new! They haven’t done this in years past when I’ve come before, so that’s exciting! Even though the maximum discount you can get is 10% off (so you don’t get multiple discounts for bringing multiple toys) although I’m sure they’d LOVE It if you brought in more than one toy! Hey, it’s a great opportunity to offload the stuff your kiddos aren’t using to make room for all the goodies Santa will be bringing!

Here’s an event recap blog I did after going to one of Miss Em’s Holiday Open House events so you can see some examples of things I found. I included a few pics below of happy Miss Em’s customers wearing their fab finds, and also a sneak peek of some items on her site I’m excited to see in person at this year’s event!

Click here to learn more about the Nov. 5 event and I hope to see you there!

Cate Alston with Cupcakes 4 Cancer

For the past few weeks, I’ve been telling you about the Miss Em’s Holiday Bazaar. It was this past Saturday and Sunday…  WOW! What a great weekend! Both days of the event were packed with lots of shoppers getting ready for the holidays (despite it being 70-75 degrees out! haha!) Below are some pics of some of my favorite things I found — and maaaaaaybe might have bought for myself or as gifts!

Not only was the event a huge success for Miss Em’s and all the vendors involved, but the event raised $408 for Cupcakes 4 Cancer – a business created by Cate Alston who bakes cupcakes with her mom. They sell cupcakes to raise money to make backpacks filled with fun items for kids who are in the hospital with cancer. A few local news stations came to the event to cover this partnership with them this year, which was exciting! Click here to read one of the station’s stories about it!

What a successful event!

Seven Savvy Look for Less Pieces from Miss Em’s

I told you last week about how I hosted a Virtual Party with Miss Em’s and now that all of my items have arrived, I’m soooo happy! Not only because I love all the pieces I bought (and it helped donate funds to my friend’s cause) but I also saved a TON off of the designer look-alikes.

I wanted to be prepared with an example of how much I was saving when my Miss Em’s package arrived, so the hubs wouldn’t give me a hard time and I was SHOCKED to see how much I actually was saving! Just to give you an idea of how affordable (yet on-trend) her items are,  below are seven side-by-side comparisons of my favorite pieces and then the designer pieces that look super similar but are MUCH more expensive. Hey, even the husband was impressed, so I know I did well! haha!

You can buy online, host a Virtual Party like I did, or shop in person this weekend at her Holiday Bazaar Nov. 5 & 6. Click here for more info!

Preview of Miss Em’s Holiday Bazaar Nov. 5-6!

I know the big Miss Em’s Holiday Bazaar is coming up on Nov. 5-6 but I had to do some pre-shopping to show you the kinds of things she’d have at the event (hey, it counts as “work” because I’m writing about it now right?) 🙂

Miss Em’s is seriously my favorite place to go for all my inexpensive accessories/costume jewelry, plus she just started selling cute baby items which have been SO perfect for gift giving!

There will be a TON more than just jewelry… there will also be Ohio State decor, jewelry, scarves, purses, children’s gifts, holiday decor and more.  They always have an awesome raffle for all the attendees to enter, too!

The pics in the first collage below are of some of the items I recently got at Miss Em’s (click here to see bigger pics) and how I’ve styled them. The second collage is of items Emily with Miss Em’s assured me she’ll definitely have at the event (she only carries a few of each, so some of the styles I got are already gone!) to give you an idea of what she’ll have there…. not to mention all the other awesome vendors she’ll have! Additional vendors include:

  • Pampered Chef
  • LuLaRoe
  • Scenty
  • Thirty One Gifts
  • Rodan + Fields
  • WildTree
  • Cupcakes 4 Cancer

Cupcakes 4 Cancer is created by a 10 year old girl, Cate Alston, who’s mission is to help kids going through chemo to feel brave, strong, and beautiful. Her goals is to provide 25 kids with fun and entertaining activities. The items that she includes in the backpacks are:

  • 1 Zen Tangle Coloring Book
  • 24 Crayola Colored Pencils
  • Gel Pens
  • Journal
  • EOS lip balm
  • EOS hand lotion
  • Awesome Craft kit
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Fuzzy Socks

The first 150 people to attend the event will get bags filled with great coupons from different companies around Cincinnati. There will be a special coupon in them from Miss Em’s as well.

Click here to get all the details about the upcoming Holiday Bazaar event, and I also included the flyer with info below! Hope to see you there!

Miss Em’s Open House Event Recap!

My friend Emily, who owns Miss Em's. How cute is she??
My friend Emily, who owns Miss Em’s, at her Open House event. How cute is she??

About a month ago I told you about a fun Open House event my friend Emily, who own’s Miss Em’s, was hosting in Anderson (and then did some fun sneak peeks, styling suggestions, and trend reports of new items she carries).

Well, the Open House event ended up being a HUGE success (Emily said lots of Cincy Chic readers were there, too, so thanks for attending if you did! 🙂

The event was held at the Anderson Senior Center, and they had more than 135 women there, who all received a swag bag filled with coupons from local vendors, including Alba Beauty Studio, Cincy Spray Tan, Damsel in Defense, Clever Containers, Jamberry, Thirty One, Miss Em’s (of course) and more! Those who mentioned they came from Cincy Chic received a free pair of earrings. Woohoo! 🙂

People came from Indiana, Kentucky, and all over Ohio just to shop at the event! In fact, Emily said some of her “loyal ladies” (what she calls her repeat shoppers) even brought outfits that they needed help accessorizing.

If you missed  the event, no worries! (Or if you’re an officially addicted Loyal Lady! haha!) Emily has more coming up! In both Cincinnati and Columbus, Emily has additional Open House events. Here are the details for each:

Cincinnati: Miss Em’s will have a booth at the Cincinnati Holiday Market this weekend from Friday – Sunday.

Cincinnati: Dec. 5, Boy Scout Troop Fundraiser in Milford.

Columbus: Nov. 22, hosting a fundraiser for Pathway To Peace. The mission of Pathway to Peace is to keep the generous spirit of Patricia and Jessica alive by raising awareness and support for mental health treatment. Emily’s mom was good friends with Patricia Lutz, who was killed last year, along with her daughter when they were struck by a vehicle who went off the road, while they were walking. 20% of the total sales on November 22nd in Columbus will go to them. Click here for more information.

If you’re interested in joining Miss Em’s email/mailing list for more information about these events in the future, just email Emily at Emily@MissEms.com. Here are a few pics of the Open House event so you can see all the fab finds (all under $20!) Miss Em’s has to offer!

Five Fab Ways to Style Scarf Season

All the signs of fall are here! The cooler temps, changing colors, pumpkin spice everything, and fall fashion galore! And my friend Emily who runs Miss Em’s (click here to read the story we did on her in Cincy Chic a couple years ago) has PLENTY of stylish scarves to get you and your wardrobe ready for the cooler temps this year. Below are five fab ways I found bloggers on Pinterest styling items similar to some of her most popular scarves. To see all these scarves (and much, much more!) in person, come to Miss Em’s Holiday Shopping-themed Open House on Nov. 1 at the Anderson Senior Center (7970 Beechmont Ave, Cincinnati, Ohio 45255). Click here to get all the event details! Oh and as an added bonus, she’ll ALSO be at our Seasonably Chic Showcase on Nov. 7! Click here for more info about that info too!

Miss Em’s: Look for Less

As I mentioned last week, my friend Emily owns Miss Em’s, an awesome accessories shop that specializes in trendy yet affordable pieces. She does home parties, craft shows, etc. (like Stella and Dot, but at a fraction of the price) and you can also go online to buy her items. But once a year she hosts an annual Holiday Shopping-themed Open House every year where you can shop in person! This year’s event is on Nov. 1 at the Anderson Senior Center (7970 Beechmont Ave, Cincinnati, Ohio 45255). Click here to get all the event details!

Whenever I wear any of my Miss Em’s pieces, people are always asking me where I got it, or if it’s such-and-such designer… and they’re always surprised when I tell them where I actually got it and for how much. So, just to give you an example of what I’m talking about, I pulled a few things I liked from Miss Em’s site, and then found identical designer look-alikes for hundreds more. Check them out! Then, after you do and you get hooked on Miss Em’s too, I’ll see you on Nov. 1! 🙂

My friend, Emily, who owns Miss Em’s

My friend Emily Smith (previously Emily Madden – she just got hitched!) started a company in 2008 that’s all about affordable fashion. Her business is called “Miss Em’s” — click here to read the story we did on her in Cincy Chic a couple years ago — and it should definitely be on your radar if you love trendy accessories but don’t want to spend a fortune on them.

Don't miss the Miss Em's Holiday Open House on Nov. 1 at the Anderson Senior Center!

From understated bracelets to statement necklaces, cute clutches to boho bags, stud earrings to dangling chandeliers, and posh pashminas to cozy scarves, Miss Em’s has it.  It’s an online boutique and Emily hand-selects everything herself, so that’s how she keeps the costs as low as possible.

And while most of the time, you have to go online to see and buy her items (she also does home parties, craft shows, etc. — like Stella and Dot, but at a fraction of the price) she also hosts an annual Holiday Shopping-themed Open House every year where you can shop in person! The first 150 people in attendance receive a swag bag filled with coupons from other vendors and local businesses, such as Mary Kay, Pampered Chef, Thirty One, Jamberry Nails, Décor by Laurie.

All of the jewelry will be $20 or lower. Purses will range from $20 – $50, Scarves will range from $12 – $15, Headbands will range from $12 – $15. Follow Miss Em’s on Facebook to see more pictures of items that will be at the event, and get updates on other events, etc.

The event is open to the public. If you read this and attend the event and mention Cincy Chic, you will get a free gift! Also, if you would like to receive a postcard or emails about this event, please contact Emily@MissEms.com

I’ll be there snagging some great gifts for all the fashionistas on my list (and of course a ton of stuff for myself, I’m sure! haha!) Hope to see you there!
