I just got this email from Mitchell’s and it sounds like a lot of fun if you’re a bride to be! Picking out my hair/makeup look for my big day was one of my favorite parts of the planning!
I don’t know about you, but I watch those cooking and dessert shows on TV and it inspires me to get creative in the kitchen. I feel like I’ve been able to successfully pull off some new things when it comes to cooking ….but baking is another story.
My team at Cincy Chic has been working with Maribelle Cakery lately to promote their wedding and special event pastry business, and they just told us about new Cake Classes that they’re launching 2014. So, it’s like having the cooking shows come to you!

Being a young entrepreneur myself, I always love it when I see other local ladies reaping the benefits of their hard work and dedication. My friend Nidhi Bedi is one of those gals. I initially met her through a friend and we immediately connected. She has one of those contagious smiles and an unbelievable work ethic that I wish I could bottle and mass produce.
For the past several years, she’s helped to run Elements Event and Conference Centre in Sharonville (which is awesome — we held a Cincinnati.com event there a couple years ago actually!). Then, she opened a clothing and bridal shop called the Black and White Exchange, which she sold. And about a year ago, she launched A Bride’s Mafia, which is a SUPER SUCCESSFUL wedding concierge service. Several of my friends have gone to her bridal networking events (which are less of a bridal expo and more of a cocktail hour with people in the wedding biz), and have been helped by the concierge service — they said it’s a dream come true, plus it’s FREE!
Cincy Chic’s “brother” publication, Cincinnati Profile, originally featured her in this “2011 Single & Successful” story. Then, last year, she was voted to be one of our Cincy Chic Women of the Year. And just recently, we covered A Bride’s Mafia in Cincy Chic, and coined the nickname “Bridal Mafia Boss” for Nidhi, which is absolutely PERFECT! haha!
Like I said, I’ve just loved following her and all the success that’s come her way. I check her site occasionally to see what she’s up to, and thought her last post “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know” was a great one to share. She reflects on her very first event, and how this business has grown. She also shares a little about her upcoming event “Battle of the Wedding Bands” on Aug. 11, and gives an overview of all the “Mafia” members and how they can help you if you have wedding bells in your future! I knew about that she worked with several different kinds of vendors, but it was neat to learn who they are and what makes each unique.
We just wrote about the owner of the Cincinnati Bride & Groom Planner here in Cincy Chic. Well, the owner of the Columbus Bride & Groom Planner is up to some fun stuff, too! She’s planning event called “The Wedding Experience” so future brides and grooms get to truly experience potential vendors before hiring them for their weddings.
I have lots of friends from Cincinnati, who met the men of their dreams at school at OSU, and are now getting married in Columbus, so I thought I’d tell you about this event in case you or someone you know is getting married in Cbus any time soon!
From the reviews on their site, it just looked like a fun event that’s different than your typical wedding expo. It’s on April 14, from 12-4pm at the NorthPointe Hotel & Conference Center. Click here for more details!
One of my dear friends Nidhi Bedi (we recently featured her here in Cincy Chic!) is hosting a HUGE bridal event on Nov. 14. It’s called “Afterhours” because it’s a more relaxed approach to meeting with and learning about local bridal vendors (think less bridal expo and more cocktail hour). At past Afterhours events, she’s attracted more than 1,500 attendees and she expects to do the same at this event. So it’s a big party and you leave with lots of new connections to make the day of your dreams come true! Below is the event invite and press release if you’d like to learn more!
Also, on a related but unrelated-to-weddings note: Nidhi runs the Elements Conference Events Center and she just told me that she’s looking for non-profit organizations who need a place to host their fundraising events. She is donating the event space to 10 charities, so contact her if you’d like to be one of them: email@example.com. She’s AMAZING to work with!!
A Bride’s Mafia Hosts Fifth Annual Afterhours Bridal Show
Cincinnati, Ohio – A mob of matrimony experts will help more than 1,500 local brides-to-be plan their special day.
A Bride’s Mafia will host its fifth annual Afterhours Bridal Show at the Music Hall on November 14 from 6-9pm. This free event is designed for engaged couples and their families to meet and greet with more than 75 premier local wedding vendors in a fun, social setting.
Both brides and grooms are encouraged to attend, as the event will feature a service called the “game plan,” which gives grooms advice on how to make their wedding day special. For the brides, the event will feature two pampering rooms that brides and guests can visit to receive complimentary hair, nail, and makeup treatments as well as free massages to ease their wedding planning stress.
Launched by local wedding industry guru, Nidhi Bedi, A Bride’s Mafia is now one of four divisions to Bedi’s concierge services:
1) A Bride’s Mafia — an online service where clients can shop for wedding vendors
2) A Bride’s Gallery — includes a free consultation with Bedi
3) A Bride’s Social — meet and greet cocktail events
4) A Bride’s Gala — a bridal show featuring the latest wedding fashion trends
“The last two Afterhours shows have brought in more than 1,500 people each,” says Bedi. “We hope to exceed that with 2,000 attendees on November 14!”
Even though it’s hailing out right now (what’s up with that by the way…wasn’t it just 80 in March?) Spring is officially here, Summer will be here before we know it, and that means wedding season is upon us!
If you or someone you know is getting married or recently got married, make sure you let them know about this super awesome new program I created and partnered with Widmer’s Cleaners for. The concept is super simple, bring in your wedding dress for cleaning and preservation after your Big Day and you’ll get a bunch of free Cincy Chic swag (reusable tote bag, drink tumbler and coffee travel mug – valued at more than $50)!
Check out the graphic below for more details and go to the Widmer’s site to see where you can find a location near you!
I just found out about this event and it sounds like a lot of fun for all you future fiances out there!

Here’s a video of a similar event they recently did in Houston
As John Kiesewetter wrote about in his blog yesterday, David Tutera (hunky host on “My Fair Wedding” is coming to Kenwood Mall this Saturday. He’s coming as part of a big tour of WE tv stars across the country (we got the cutest celeb, I have to say). For this one-day only event on June 26 (12-6pm), they’ll have a bunch of national sponsors, and a bunch of local hand-selected vendors, doing demonstrations, offering discounts and giving away great prizes (like a KitchenAid mixer, $100 gift cert to NinaShoes.com, and a $1,000 shopping spree you can use at Kenwood Mall).
They will also have a fashion show featuring White House Black Market’s new wedding party dress line. I didn’t know WHBM launched this new collection, so I’m excited to see it up close and personal. Check out their limited edition bridal gown! I love love love it!
I did a video interview with a rep from Kenwood Mall to chat about this exciting celeb appearance and bridal event, so check it out!
And while I was planning this blog post, two more wedding-related items landed in my inbox. First one is a Bride’s Night Out with Snooty Fox, which looks super cute and fun. The second is news that the Cincinnati Art Museum is doing a fab wedding giveaway. Check out all the details in the press release below!

It will feature classic designs as well as the work of Christian Dior couture, Vera Wang, Worth and an avant-garde Yohji Yamamoto gown.
The exhibition will show the origin of bridal traditions in Western culture, how all the pieces of the wedding, from long trains to jewel-encrusted décolletés, came together, periods when the ‘traditional’ white wedding dress was not worn, colorful wedding dresses, an embroidered felt dress, and influential designers and contemporary artist’s conceptions of wedding attire.
Arranged around these gowns, paintings, photography, and installation pieces will provide visions of the weddings and social settings out of which these designs emerged.

Maybe it was the mild winter, or the cool summer. Or maybe it’s just that time flies when you’re having fun. Whatever it is, it’s September already! Last year at this time, I was putting all the final touches on my wedding planning and preparing to say “I do” to my best friend. We got married on September 27 (click here to see our beautiful wedding photos!), on a sunny Indian Summer day. Time sure has flown by!
It’s been a year and I still haven’t had time to change my name legally, finish our registry or unsubscribe myself from all the bridal lists I’m on. I think I’ll eventually get to the whole name changing thing (let’s face it, Amy Storer-Scalia doesn’t have the most appealing initials), and we’ll definitely get the food processor we fell in love with but no one got us. But I don’t think I’ll get around to unsubscribing to these bridal e-mail lists! I secretly like keeping tabs on the fascinating, ever-changing bridal industry. I love the glamor and uncompromising attention to detail. Everything is polished, pristine, posh and pretty. And even though I already had my special day, a girl can dream… even if it’s just of what I’ll wear to our vow renewal ceremony!
I put together this list for all you chic brides-to-be, Mothers of the Bride, bridesmaids, maids of honor or anyone else out there like me who secretly loves to watch the wedding world from afar.
The 20s made their way back into mainstream fashion over the past few seasons, and now with Pin Me Up Couture, they’re roaring into the wedding scene as well. Pieces are available on Etsy, The Bridal Shop located on Mainstrasse in Covington and they also do custom creations.
